Brake fluid change

I need to change my brake fluid. Has anybody got any experiences of the pressure bleeding devices that i'm thinking that i need. Or shall i just take it to a bike shop?
 
Is it a Servo ABS bike, and how good a home mechanic are you ???
 
If you've servo brakes beware before bleeding in the "normal" way. Otherwise it'll all end in tears.
 
In that case, the recommended method is to use a filling funnel which screws into the top of the ABS unit to allow a head of clean brake fluid to feed the pump whilst bleeding and prevent air getting in. Some say you can do without it, I say use one. If it wasn't needed BWM wouldn't bother with one.

The brake system has four circuits. Two from the handlebar lever/foot brake to the ABS pump act as pilot operating circuits. The other two go from the ABS pump to the front or rear brake calipers respectively and are the operating circuits.

You bleed the ABS pump and the calipers, refilling both the handlebar reservoirs and the ABS pump internal reservoirs. I can't remember the exact sequence for bleeding so you'd be best to do a search for the info or get hold of a RepROM DVD.
 
You don't need pressure bleding devices with servo brakes - use the bikes own servo pump to bleed the system.

But don't bleed from the caliper expecting the fluid in the handlebar reservour to empty, because it doesn't, you'll empty the servo unit under the tank.
 
Thank you. I think i'm begining to understand.(i think) So how does the reservoir get clean fluid?
 
It's a BMW part so no doubt will cost an arm and a leg. But it can be done without a funnel, just by topping up the reservoir as you do the bleeding, but you have to be careful that you don't let the reservoir empty.
 
I had mine changed at RGM when it was in for a service. I`d suggest taking it somewhere where you can watch the guy do it and be able to ask questions too. RGM for example :D A bit too dangerous if you feck it up imo
