Brake flush

Hi is a brake flush on a 2009 1200gs straightforward? With it having a servo pump I presume it will bleed as per a normal setup as on my last bikes, ie just bleed front and rear calipers keeping reservoirs topped up

My 2005 has servo - I think it was sucha good ideal that they stopped it after a year or so - pretty sure 2009 was the 'cheap' version where you had to do all the work yourself!

Ive had the whole back and front ends off mine. I expected some "fun" cleaning up fluid around the ABS unit (cracked nuts to clear bubbles etc), but its all bled as if it had simple brakes with no ABS.

I guess the service indicator will need resetting. After getting a quote about a bm dealer service I'm going to bite the bullet and get a gs-912. Swore when I retired I wouldn't mess with tools especially since I became a carer for my Linda, but I'm having a rethink! I just need a few odds and ends to get going thegs-911 being one.

Bled my 09 as normal. With a gs911 you can cycle the abs valves and bleed again to be sure most of the fluid is replaced.

As MWH says, with a GS-911 you can cycle the ABS valves to move more fluid along. But I don't have a 911. I just bled the system as if it was a normal plain non ABS. Fluid moved though and soon got a good lever feel. I had disconnected metal pipes at the ABS block and hoses at front forks but no problems.

I did the bleed as usual with a bit of trusty tube and a bottle. Having a GS911 I used that then did the bleed again. No evidence of anything flushed out by the GS911.

That's pretty much what I do except I use a syringe to vacume through the new fluid rather than push through from the brake lever. I assume the GS911 process opens up all the valves in the ABS modulators and hence circulates the new fluid in there as well, so the entire system is bled. It certainly sounds that way anyway.

So to clarify. We don't need a gs911 to bleed it. We can just use the tube etc. ?

OBS, I will get a service indicator light and will reset that later when I ask some local indy nearby to please do it..

I need to do mine too as it's well over due. I thought that with the abs pump, it wasn't as straight forward as just a normal bleed. But if it is then all good I'm sure I looked at a you tube video and it looked quite a bit more complicated, but perhaps it was a servo bike. I can't remember as it wasn't a necessity at the time

Yea Johno the utube vid shows the under fuel tank servo system.( also the bain of my life with my old GS) it was a great old bike till the servo nightmares started.

Mines a 09 like yours, so no servo, but it sounds like if you run new fluid through it without a 911 you won't change
all the fluid, so there's not a lot of point then is there? or am I missing something
