I have a 1200GS on order for delivery in April - I have chosen the ABS option, however I'm having second thoughts. If I choose the non-ABS option do I still get servo assistance?

Excuse my ignorance, but the brochure does not seem entirely clear about this.

Fairly sure

that all new BM's have the servo assistance irrespective of ABS option.

Checked, double checked and trebble checked with SPC. The non ABS option does NOT have the servo. This is true whether you order an ADV or a 12GS. Love the 12, hate the servo. I waited until now to order a non servo'd 12 for March. Its a pity, because I like the old system of ABS on my 02 GS, wish they kept it.

Because of the confusion I emailed BMW UK and this was their reply.

"The R1200GS can be ordered without ABS as a non-servo assisted bike. The addition of ABS either with or without the manual deactivation switch will include servo assistance that cannot be disengaged."

So that clears up that one!
I think that I will go for the non-servo brakes.

Been speaking to service guys at my garage. They have confirmed that the new gs will come with a non-servoed, non-ABS option.

They also told me that they'd had no servo failures on 12GS's to date either. They have however had failures on the older ABS systems, but not the 'Sports Integral' fitted to the 12. People come in with reported brake failures, but these have been due to the 'self test' at startup not completing. The most common cause of non-completion of the self test is a bent hand guard, which just applies the brake lever a fraction, so beware.

One thing I did also find out is that you will have a 'Brake Failure' indicated for the rear bulb being out, although when you check the rear light it will appear to be OK. This is because the ECU detects the failure and sends an increased voltage to the tail light to simulate a brake light......quite clever I thought.
