hello guys,

sorted the finance out today (thursday) with the business manager and guess what he said to me after i handed him the cheque? 'by the way, there is a recall on all 12gs as the brakes needs new parts and the parts are coming from germany, so it will not be fixed until early next week. bmw has a very strict policy of not allowing any bikes out until this problem is rectified.'

i thought what the f..k is this guy on about? if there is a recall i think i would know before him from this forum of comrades! why didn't he just say that it is company policy that the cheque has to be cleared before they can release the bike?

but then again, my other theory is that they have damaged my new 12gs and are awaiting the appropriate part or parts to come in, which will be sometime next week.

i am a naturally suspiciously minded guy. (sad, isn't it?) and this time i think this guy is telling porkies.

for what reason they are holding by baby back, i don't know, but sure as hell i am going to find out tomorrow (friday) when the sales person comes back from his day off.

anyone heard anything or have a theory?

Yes there is a thread around (may be on Adv rider site). I can't find it at the moment but will post if I come across it - only read it about a couple of hours ago!

Seems to only affect a few bikes between certain VIN numbers - I thought mainly in the US but could be some over here. I think its to do with some incorrect connections to the brakes.

So it may be true and not porkies. Probably benefit of the doubt time until proved otherwise. :)

You are partly correct paul. The recall affects a few 1200gs' that were built around october 4th - 28th i think. Its to do with the metal section of the brake line where it meets the coupling to the braided hose for the rear brake. If you pull back the protective sheath on the coupling you will see a clip that holds both sections of pipe together. The clip must fit evenly around the metal pipe - if it doesn't the coupling must be replaced and the brake re bled ,followed by the now customary pressure test. Owners of affected bikes will be contacted
