Agree with all of the above.

It was mentioned but 'he' remained tight lipped. Yes a report on the bike was provided, iirc.

I some how think a ride report may of been in poor taste.

:blast

How about if he'd called it 'An account of my ride of the toilet launch' then?

Semantics bollox......there are a LOT of people who want or (in the case of Mrs K.A) NEED a conclusion....one way or t'other.

Why would he stay tight lipped about it? :nenau

Either to avoid potential liability, or for a 'Sweetener' ?

If he told the truth, as seen from his eyes, with no assumptions made, he'd be legally scot free, unless (and this is highly unlikely ) he caused it himself :nenau

The longer it goes on, the more dodgy it all looks......BMW scored the biggest home-goal ever when they put the steering dampener on the '14 model.....it's a tacit acknowledgement that it was needed, Shirley :nenau

If it was needed, what lead to that conclusion....K.A's crash?

If it wasn't needed, why did they fit it?

One day, I might end up riding one of these toilets........I'd like to know :nenau

With tens of thousands of LC's now sold to the general public, if this was such a big issue, why have we heard of ZERO dramatic tank slappers from owners?:nenau

Of course, the journos aren't known to rag the tits off of bikes they are testing, are they?:augie:rolleyes:

Again, this is all speculative bollocks, and nobody will ever know the cause of Kevin Ash's accident. Ever.:rob

Interesting that all the conspiracists on here have either never ridden one, or only ridden one for an hour or two.

You're still missing the point Nutty. It has nothing to do with the bike per se and certainly isn't a personal slight upon WC owners. It is about a product from a brand that people are interested in , or follow, support, etc etc. It would be the same if it were a Honda, Suzuki, Guzzi , afaic anyway. Any vehicle I have an interest in, and for whatever reason, whether I've ridden/driven it long term, short term or not at all, means I would like to know about its history, warts and all. If that history is chequered then I wish to know more, and why.
It is not a WC thing , at all.

The Sunday Times report on the 15th Dec. stated that the steering damper was being fitted due to a number of incidents of unexplained tankslappers....including with senior management in BMW. The report inferring that the tankslappers and steering dampers are linked. Not something the paper is likely to print unless it is fairly sure of its ground.

However, to put this into perspective, there are only 4 reported tank slappers that I am aware of that have been verrified. If we consider the millions of miles that have been ridden by the 000's of bikes with few reported incidents and no reported deaths or serious injury (from the 4 incidents) I guess the question is whether this is better or worse than any other bike.

So, if the fitting of the steering damper is linked...is it precautionary or necessary. I cannot imagine that BMW would be foolish enough to Let the pre damper bikes remain as they are if it is felt to be necessary.....they would be severely impacted IF that were the case and people were injured or worse. Removing conscience and moral duty I.e. emotional responses....it just doesn't make logical business sense as the risk is too great.

FFS .. :blast

If you buy a Fireblade, it has a steering Damper. The original Blade didn't have one but as it's evolved, Honda have put one on. Does that mean there's a fault with the bike? That the steering is twitchy? That it's dangerous??

No. It's just a powerful bike that has enough va va voom to get it's front end light over slight crests and rises in the road.

And now we have a GS that has a bit of performance - enough to shake its head (like the fireblade) in the right circumstances.

Why have BM decided to put a steering damper on it?? Because the like of you lot and a few Journos are bumping yer gums that shock horror, Oh My God I got the bike crossed up coming over a rise in the road. They're just trying to keep you happy ... :blast

They put it on because it's a death trap, a widow maker. Be afraid, be very afraid; only a real man can tame it.

:thumb That sums it up:beerjug:

Spot on - this isn't a bike for the slow or faint hearted. It's far too powerful a bike for owners of oilheads to consider.

Beware! Stay away!
