I have a GSA and owned it for two years and done 22000 miles my first BMW ever as always mainly had Hondas before. I love-my BMW the way it rides and its comfort but i will say I have never owned a bike with so many parts replaced under warranty!
Front Shock leaking oil
Front Fork recall
Left Hand switch gear
Full exhaust (Valve Stuck)
Bearing in rear shaft pivot
Oh and Rattle from engine that I was told was a faulty batch of exhaust valves all replaced
Still love the bike it has never let me down when riding just a shame a premium brand with premium prices has such a shoddy supply chain.
Bit after all that, they have never questioned fixing the the issues and always given me a replacement toy to play with. Should I buy another BMW given the issues probably not will i probably Yes
But who pays for all these issues in the long run? sure, some will be passed back to the supplier base who in turn will notch up the pice to cover the issues... but most of the cost will be carried by BMW... and their cars are no better. Talking to a guy last night who said his BWM M had gone back for shell replacements! so how much did this cost them?
Its the punters who are paying for all these issues make no mistake... they would be £K cheaper if they didn't have any for sure....
Anyone ever worked out how much a GS costs to build?
Ford can now make the 1ltr engine all in for £100!!.... so work that through the bike.. a lot of moulding that will be cheap as chips (ok, there is tooling cost to recover etc), castings, wheels, folks, electronics, frame, shocks, exhaust, seats... not a lot when you add it up... wild guess, but I'd say no more than £2500-£3000 in bits.... add build labour??... it will be the overhead that increases the cost a lot (R&D, design, testing, purchasing teams, etc)... and a large chunk to cover re-work costs and parts...
would be interesting to know the numbers behind the build.... We are paying far too much for what they are, thats for sure...
Had not seen that before ... frame £50 id say.. body panels.. £50 at a push... Tyres... I know how much a UK manufacturer pays per tyre.. and thats about £17.50 each
