Brand new Moto Guzzi v100s corrosion

It’s not just brands like Moto Guzzi that are often unwilling to help sort out problems with a bike once they‘ve “sold“ it to a dealer.

I’m reminded of a main dealer down south who had received a new model year bike that was to be registered as their demo bike. The salesman showed me the most appalling welding on the frame clearly visible on the right hand side down towards the footrest. A blind man receiving a blow job & simultaneously having a colonoscopy whilst welding the frame couldn’t have done a worse job.

After being sent pictures the manufacturer (big four) didn’t think it was that bad and when the dealer insisted it be rectified initially offered only to send a new frame so the dealer could reframe it , at his cost.

The 14th day to reply was today and no reply so now stage 2, are they thinking because i have most of my money back I'm now just calling there bluff ?

Not sure how they can actually defend themselves because i have a admission from Andrew @ MSC that the bike arrived like it and basically blame moto guzzi, plus how can they charge £200 pdi when pdi never even noted the corrosion - scratches and loose fasteners probably because no pdi was actually carried out, i also strongly believe they delivered it 2 days earlier in the dark to mask the issues.

Its very simple "not of satisfactory quality"

As a business this is suicidal, i get daily likes from google for the review i left on there google listing.
Seems very strange if they want to carry on trading with a good reputation, perhaps they don`t. The market is dying, as are their customers.
We have to face facts, there are no new customers, they are all old...10 Years will see the majority of dealerships closed.

I haven't read this thread in its' entirety yet but wanted to add my experience with MSC. I bought my v85tt from an independent dealer, a few months old with barely 350 miles on the clock, and first annual service was later done by the supplying Guzzi dealer. I later discovered that I had been charged extra for a valve check when it should have been included in the service and although they did spot the squeaking shock (a common fault from the factory) they failed to sort it. Supposedly a reputable dealer but that particular branch were new to Guzzi and didn't seem to know their product.
Subsequent services have been done at MSC, who I had initially spoken to at the Guzzi meet at Gaydon when they brought along a couple of demo bikes. First one was when the bike was just within warranty, done at correct Guzzi rates i.e. reasonable. Mechanic was happy to chat, clearly knew his bikes and when I asked about the tatty alternator cover (not caused by road debris) he also pointed out that the silencer didn't sound quite right, which 'might' mean that the silencer was starting to corrode internally. I hadn't even noticed it. Externally it looked as new but both items were efficently sorted under warranty. Next time around I finally got to play with a v100 demo bike for the day. They strike me as a decent bike shop and I'll continue to use them. YMMV, as the Yanks say...

@Vulpine2 its great to hear you have been happy with the service from MSC and i wish my experience had been like yours, its only when theres a problem the cracks start to appear.

Yeah, just goes to show how experiences differ. I used the same BMW dealer for years, purchased several bikes and years worth of servicing and I was a happy chappie, that was while things were going well and I stumped up the cash. When they clearly bodged the first service on my new bike and damaged it in the process, then refusing to admit liability or put the issue right, I suggested that I expected loyalty to a long term regular customer. It seems they did not give a fig, even when I spoke to the owner and there in was the problem. He had taken over from his father and was clean sweeping the organisation with long term staff who were the back bone of the dealership being pushed out. After a couple of years he regretted this as they were the ones who had drawn in and maintained long term customers such as myself, who had gone elsewhere. The dealership expanded into several branches with other marques, but kept the solus BMW franchise to which today I would not give my custom, this goes to a dealer who has always treated me very well indeed, even when things have not gone right on the odd occaision. Thinking about it, they have lost mega bucks from customers they mis-treated, amazing how some dealerships even in today's economic climate still don't learn the lesson, complete stupidity or arrogance or possibly both.

The 14 days have expired. Do you have an update? Hopefully all paid but I’m expecting them to get to the court date before they pay up. Probably the morning of the case when they know it’s going to be heard. Hope I’m wrong and that would reflect badly on their customer service levels.

The Mondello sparked my interest while I was away this week. Have since come across this thread and bollocks to that. I know its dealer dependant but when a manufacturer turns their back on such a problem then there is no way Im even considering it. One potential sale gone already.
Good luck with getting compensated @DING-DONG

Just playing devils advocate, but have you never seen a thread on here where BMW have been less than supportive of an issue, detaching it completely from Ding Dongs experience with his dealer and Guzzi, looking through here, corrosion threads, the 1250 "tick", wheel failures and the list could go on. Dropping a marque on the strength of this thread seems a bit extreme :) Makes me wonder how BMW still manage to sell any new bikes, if you looked through enough threads on here.

Yes you are correct of course. Probably heat of the moment after reading through the whole thread. I have to say that the Stelvio looks good in the pics.

Anyway, lets just hope that ding dong recovers the rest of his money and hopefully a bit more.

Update...

FULL REFUND...

So armed with the info from trading standards and the templates for the letters that you must send, i sent the first letter and it went unanswered and in the meantime i telephoned the shop because the motorbike was still in my name and they had the v5c, they needed to do a change of keeper, i asked for a call back from either Mrs Webster-Noble or her son Andrew, my request went unanswered, so i sent an email asking them to remove my name as the registered keeper again no reply, i sent many emails and all unanswered, couple days later I call Dvla and the call handler confirmed it was still in my name, luckily for me i had a screen shot of the V5 with the reference number to aid the change the keeper so the call handler told me what to do.

I filled the details online selecting Dealer and put dealers details in, i send the second and final letter before court, 14 days pass and on the very last day Friday 19th Jan 2024 i received a reply @ 9:30pm, they had received the new v5c and now are going to make a counter claim for duty of care to not cause any further losses as now the v5c is showing Motorcycle and scooter centre as the registered keeper and Mrs Webster-Noble states by putting the motorbike in there name now devalues the motorbike.

I reply to her email on Saturday 20th jan 2024 stating this is the very last time i will be replying, the next stage regardless will be county court claim against themselves, previously on the 14th December 2023 Mrs Webster-Noble informed myself the money they were withholding were cancelation charges, even tho i never canceled i rejected the bike on the 5th Dec 2023 and they could not fulflil the order of a replacement until 2024 so a full refund should have been given, however it now seems the money they are withholding has gone from cancellation charges to compensate for the de-value of the motorbike because there now seen as the registered keepers.
in my reply i point out all the failures and the duty of care they have to inform Dvla of the change of keeper and by not doing so could impose a fine up to £1000 on the registered keeper, that being myself. I also point out they have no claim when they fail to comply with law. My final reply was a good read and I'm probably right in thinking she knew i was very serious.

She Replied late eve Saturday 20th jan 2024 and said a full refund will be given and transferred into your account on Monday 22nd jan and by magic the money has landed @ 8pm yet again she dragged it out... FULL REFUND.

Now i never wanted any form of compensation i just wanted them to do the right thing and refund me in full, it would have made a huge difference if they had picked up the phone and called myself, a personal approach would have solved everything, yet they cut all ties of communication and presumed id not follow it through, how wrong, I feel I've received compensation, the fact i won them at there own game is enough of a payout.

I thought it was only my wife that was adamant she's right even when she's wrong, its seems Mrs Webster-Noble suffers with this trait as well.

Oh well, I'm disappointed we never got to county court, in a smug way i was looking forward to it.

This is still on the first page of Google and i hope many people read it and make there own judgment, what i would say for any members whom use Motorcycle and scooter centre i would seriously think about using alternative dealership as this episode goes to show how unprofessional they really are, i also think the manufacture should do more for the customer because there input was nil and left to Mrs Webster-Noble to decide what to do, even tho it was the wrong Moto Guzzi wasn't bothered.

Thank you all for your input.

Result. Well done for sticking to your guns.

As I've said previously MG's reaction to your issues has confirmed I'll not be buying one of their bikes any time soon.

Congratulations on getting your money back.
As you mentioned earlier, it should have needed to come to this. In the end no winners..
You have had all that anxiety and trouble, the dealers reputation, and the makers poor response too.

Excellent result. Well done for the perseverance and patience.

congratulations DingDong on a rightful result. The question still remains unanswered as to how your new bike could be delivered in such a poor condition, was it delivered to the dealer like that, or did the dealer prep have something to do with it? I’m sure your not really concerned about that now, but as you say, prospective customers should be very concerned about what happened and the lack of response from both the dealer and the importer.
