Brand New Product... Battery/Alternator Monitor.

Hi Paul,
2 questions for you;

1/ Do you have a web page with details as I know of quite a few people with old british iron that would buy it from you
2/ Any chance of a 6V model? again for brit iron

TIA
Neil

Thanks for such a quick reply. I'll report back once fitted.

Yes, can understand people having their preferences, but for those that don't a one stop shop would be very handy, would be for me. Shame I can't find any 100ma mini blade fuses, the holder I have is very neat and water-resistant too.

Cheers,

J.

All the same price £18 delivered.regards Paul
PS if cookie wants a really small unit to lose they can be made with a 3mm led.:augie

Nice easy fit and the product does exactly what it is sold to do.

Good to know that on dark commutes home with lights, heated grips and heated jacket on that the alternator is still kicking out enough juice to run it all and keep the battery topped up.

Cheers Paul, nice one. :thumb2

thankyou popeye,nice comments.:thumb

Fuseholders, these are available via maplin here.
Fuses are here.
I can get them and deliver them to you by post for a fiver paypal gift.
But as i say they are cheaper collected from a maplin store.
I think they charge £7.87 delivered for a fuseholder and 10 fuses.
Future units will include the fuse and holder, but as with most things there is an additional cost tba.

Hi Nomad biker,

very interesting product you have developed. I'm really interested. Have thought a couple of times that it would be nice to have something that does exactly what your device does. Unfortunately I'm not even close to have the knowledge to make something like that.

However some questions:
I don't like the idea of cutting into the original bikes wiring harness. Is there any way to connect it to the R12GS without modifying the original wiring?

Would you at all be prepared to send one accross the North Sea to Norway (at increased price for shipment I assume)?

re the fitting, you could just push the red wire into the back of the terminals to the rear of the headlamp/sidelamp bulb, and put the black to earth, this will save any wiring mods at all, its a bit of a bodge, but it will work, dont forget a separate fuse, see supplied instructions.
also if there are fuses on the bike, you could use one of these....

re the carriage to norway, dont worry i'll cover the extra post cost, the only thing i cant guarentee is getting there, we cant do recorded delivery from the uk to norway,so if you are happy with that, were good.

I'd just like to share some experience:

To begin with I asked if it would be possible to have a unit sent here to Norway (which I believe involves a bit more paperwork). Paul confirmed and did even offer to cover additional shipping cost.

The unit arrived nicely packed with a good description of how it works.:thumb2

I then had a question about installion (was afraid to break something). Paul answered quick and very kind.

Then I started to source the recommended fuse and that to my surprise turned out to be a struggle. I called about 10 shops/electricians until I finally found one that was willing to order the 100mA fuses for me.

I installed the unit by using the switched power outlet underneath the front of the tank and used a NN-connector.

The unit did on first test exactly what it should according to manual (running through the different colours and then indication the voltage). The LED is really bright and good visible.

When I checked a bit more careful I found that the voltage indicated was lower (<12V) than what I measured at the battery (about 12,5V) and I could not really figure out why .

So I contacted Paul again and got guidance of what to check. It turned out that the bl***y fuses (the whole batch that I bought) have a quite high resistance (more than 20 Ohm) :( which in combination with the currant the unit draws causes a drop of voltage of almost 1V over the fuse leading to wrong reading at the battery monitor.

Paul measured his fuses, they only have 3 Ohms.

As I did not know if using the unit unfused on the said power outlet could harm the bikes electric I was sort of stuck in the mudd :blast:blast:blast

However, beside all trouble I caused for Paul already he now even offered to send me a fuse :).
I find that more than just kind and am really impressed and grateful for the great service and support :beerjug::beerjug:

Thinking of the amount we at times are forced to throw at dealerships and how one sometimes is treated there one shouldn't believe this happens in the same world

Anyway, a real great THANK YOU to Paul for a nice product at a nice price and outstanding support all the way through!!! :D:D:D

Joerg
