Any suggestions as to what breakdown cover to use? As the bike (04 12GS) is now out of BMW's warranty/breakdown period, i was thinking of looking at some sort of cover, any ideas?

If you get your insurance through Carol Nash, you get breakdown cover included. It covers europe too. :thumb

Or you could save the cost of AA membership by insuring with e bike or Bennetts and the AA covers all vehicles driven by the member......

If you have cover for a car, extend your policy to include personal cover. It will then cover you for any vehicle including bikes. I have 3 bikes and 2 cars to cover so this works out well for me. I am currently covered by BMW (as the bike is under a year old), Carole Nash and Green Flag (who cover my cars and me). If I break down I'll call them all and see who gets there first

Just about the same for me, too. European cover for bike through BMW insurance (best quote for me last year), and Green Flag covers all family members driving their vehicles in U.K.for £90 p.a.

My bike is covered in the UK as part of my Ebike policy.

I only have 1 other vehicle, a car, so I looked for a well priced standalone policy to cover the car for any driver.

So, I got a Europ Assistance policy for £59 from Quoteline Direct: it covers UK & Europe.

Should I wish to take the bike overseas I can simply log onto the QD website and change the vehicle details. Whilst I'm away the car, which will probably just sit on the drive, will not be covered. When I return to the UK I swap the cover back over to the car. QD don't charge for this.

BTW, I've had this cover for nearly three years. It's so good that I've never had to use it! Although, as both the car & bike are 6 years old I feel that I might be before long...

Get cover that will recover your bike etc if you have an accident,, It can happen,?, It did to me and I was left on the side of the road for hours awaiting an appointed garage that didn`t turn up!!.
So I won`t AA that again.

Good point Geoffrey.

You can read the full T&Cs on the website I've listed. As ever with insurance, read the small print.

This is a list of insured incidents with Europ Assistance:
"Mechanical breakdown, accidental damage, vandalism, fire, theft or attempted theft, flat battery, or accidental damage to tyres, occurring during the Period of Insurance within the Geographical Limits.
In the case of keys locked within the vehicle, key breakage, lack of fuel, or the use of incorrect fuel, we would pay for the roadside assistance and local recovery if appropriate. However, you will be responsible for paying any incremental costs
such as lock replacement, new keys, drainage of tank, disposal of wrong fuel and any replacement fuel."
