does anyone know where i can get this? most policies specify bikes must be under 16 years old

Green Flag cover my 2002 GS. Give them a call. :thumb2
They also cover my 2002 Mercedes car.

green flag wont cover over 16 year olds

With Greenflag It depends on the cover you go for, as to the age of the Bike covered;

Cover in Europe.

If you're taking a trip to Europe, we've got you and your motorbike covered. If you buy European cover without UK cover, your motorbike must be under 16 years old.
If you buy European cover with UK cover, your motorbike must be under 25 years old.

I got mine through Adrian Flux (Bikesure). It was an add on to the insurance, but they may do a separate policy

My 2007 (18years old) is covered by Greenflag and I was also able to get European cover with them for a trip to Ireland this year.

Few years ago I was faced with the same issue,
Reading the terms / conditions it suggested that if the bike was of low value and the repatriation costs exceeded its market value they would not repatriate anyway.
I didn’t bother with the insurance,took spare levers,a chain link and inner tube plus basic tools.
I figured if it broke down and couldn’t be fixed locally,I could either dump it if terminal or go back with a van/trailer.
Guess what,it never missed a beat ,just like the last 15 years of ownership.👍

yes, i tried that. and as soon as i cancelled my breakdown policy my bike broke down (fuel pissing out), no way to fix by the roadside, and it cost me £300 in recovery fees and a lost £900 ferry booking
