Any advice ? Should I follow the book like I did for my 04 GS or should I try something else ? (Like that)

It`s entirely up to you, if you want to thrash (trash?) your new bike go ahead :D
I`d like to see how many GS`s were thrashed from new and then broke down mechanically.

Hi,

Im just running mine in at the mo, after reading recent threads, opinions do vary, official word from the dealer was up to about 4 1/2 thousands revs to start with but dont worry about opening it up more than that to overtake etc, just dont keep it at higher revs.

I have run in quite a few bike and personally think its about feel, the more miles you do the looser the engine feels, ive done 250 miles and am opening it up to 5K normally and up to 6kish for overtaking.

Fingers crossed:)

Very gingerly whenever the engine is still cold.

Once all the alloy parts of the engine casing are warm though.....ride it like you stole it.

There's a very small window of opportunity to get the rings to seal really well ... the first 20 miles !!

Its easy .....when you know how

"...I have run in quite a few bike and personally think its about feel....." Yes, of course but how many bikes do you have to run in to develop this art? It always surprises me that people ask questions that in fact are saying "should I do what the BMW designers lay down in thier handbook or have you (whoever you may be) a better idea!!!"

BMW follow the principle that you're all stupid.

The recommendations they give out are based on experience ofthe general bike buying public.

If you're half smart you should be able to figure it out.

hint: they redline them in every gear straight off the end of the prod line to check everything works.

would the dealer really want you back after 20 mins to change the oil and filter ? nope.

the recommendations are for the average man in the street being looked after by the worst dealer to cause minimum amount of overall cost to BMW .
