Bretagne (Brittany)

I've not ridden in Brittany but been on car holidays there a couple of times. It may not have the dramatic peaks or views of the Alps, Pyrenees, Vosges or Massif Central, but it has some lovely roads and they're virtually empty outside of summer holiday season. Great cuisine too, with fresh seafood everywhere.

(I also got the worst sunburn I've ever had - possibly that ANYONE has ever had - while playing in rockpools on the beautiful beaches.)

Lovely here today

I have included the D767 and the cafe / bar into a possible jaunt northwards from our campsite. If either or both are shite, you'll be hearing from my solicitor.

Nope . Saint Briac sur Mer.

Thanks Richard we will be arriving in Roscoff so will likely follow the coast West then divert into the Amorique national park and probably head to Pointe du Raz and then follow the coast towards Vannes, that’s as far as the plan has goes so a hoon on our awesome speeds along the D767 fits in nicely with our intention to head towards the Normandy coast and some of the WW2 sites :thumby:

If you’re passing , try go to Ploumanach for lunch . Utterly stunning

Day 1 planning complete around 200 ish miles, from Roscoff we head down down through Amorique Natural Park visiting Pointe Du Raz, possibly U Boat pens at Lorient and staying in Auray where Joan of Arc met her inquisitors, I don't just throw this stuff together you know.......;)

We stayed in St Brieuc on a family holiday many years ago and visited Ploumanach a couple of times, my kids still talk about it as their best beach holiday ever, I'd love to go back and will one day but not this visit sadly.

I didn't but I do now, noted :thumby:

If you like Phares then Pointe Saint-Mathieu is a nice place to visit.

A couple of hotels and Bistrot 1954 was very good. http://www.pointe-saint-mathieu.com/en/bistro-1954.html
The main restaurant next door has a Michelin star if you want that experience http://www.pointe-saint-mathieu.com/en/restaurant-brittany.html

Good information I doubt the company I am keeping will want the Michelin star experience but thanks anyway :thumby:

Audierne and the coast towards Plogoff is worth a ride. Make sure you buy some proper kouign-amman. Not cheap but absolutely delicious. Almost 100% cholesterol too.

I too would dismiss a single Michelin star out of hand. Three stars and five knives and forks, with rosettes, only.

The whole peninsula is too often overlooked, with bods hellbent on ‘doing’ the beaches.

Lots on offer, for sure.

I’m just heading up to Guingamp via the D767 in next 30 mins .

J’arrive.

Great ride up the 767.
Richard will be very excited -I forgot that the road summits a col.
I’ll try get a photo on the way back . The barrier is up and hopefully no closure till the snow hits in November:-)

Ok, as promised,here it is.
You can forget your Col de la Bonnette etc.
Until you’ve bagged the Col de La Clarté, you ain’t a proper tosser !!
Make sure you bring an extra layer,as up here the weather can change in an instant !

Just like the iconic Col de L’Iseran, it’s normally surrounded by crowds trying to get that all important piccy.Couldn’t believe my timing today as wasn’t too busy
