a mate sent me this pic yesterday showing his brisk spark plugs welded into the supressor caps on his RT.
the HT leads had to be sacrificed to remove them.

wonder why that happened

Possibly the collars inside the ends of the HT leads were'nt t ight enough around the screw-on caps on top of the plugs, causing arcing :nenau

yeah, that's what i thought. but not a very common problem in my experience.

expensive plugs too :P

Sounds like the Brisk caps are maybe smaller than usual.....gotta be worth plugging them into the leads outside of the bike to check the wiggle factor before screwing the plugs in.

I'll have to remember that:)

I have those installed in my 1100. No problems .............yet !

Just wondering woulld it have anything to do with the suppressors on the RT ? . Seems strange nonetheless. The most probable reason is a loose connection at the HT leads as mentioned already. Never seen the like of it before though.

if you're using brisk it seems worthwhile checking fit in HT leads.

perhaps swap screw on end fittings with normal/bosch plugs.

bosch is new one still with it's top on. dunno why it's in the photo.

The plug on the right bears little resemblance to the Brisk plugs I've been running in the GS for some time, which have four pressed metal outer electrode thingos curving in to completely surround the central electrode. (pardon my lack of knowledge of electrical terminology).
Could he (or I) be running incorrect plugs ?

Phil

Certainly doesn't look like a Brisk plug to me. Ive run Brisks for the last 50K or so miles with no problems at all.

Brilliant preformance and economy gains. Wouldn't use anything else!:beerjug:

I've just put some NGK Iridium plugs in my 1100, not tried it yet!

A mate put them in his 1150RT and says they make a significant difference and cured his (bikes) surging problems.

the plug on the left with BRISK written on it is a brisk

the one on the right with BOSCH written on it is a bosch. it's the replacement.

as stated before I DON'T KNOW WHY THE BOSCH IS IN THE PICTURE

What so just cos it says BRISK on it you automatically ASSUME it's a BRISK PLUG???

And just because it was STUCK you think you should WARN others of a potential PROBLEM?

We ALL know your only reason for this is YOU have like STEPTOE just bought a JOB LOT of Bosch and NGK plugs and you had a LOAD of HT LEAD on SPECIAL!! :D

well, i WOULDN'T have bought a JOB LOT of BRISK plugs unless i knew a WHOLE BUNCH of PUNTERS with TOO MUCH MONEY :D

just to clarify the pic of the plugs there was 2 seperate issues.

1st was a Bosch platinum plug that suffered from the ceramic seperating from the metal giving 3-4mm play causing blow-by (can be messy!) and burning the HT lead on the right. Nursed it home 125miles from Gatwick to Dorset @4am (double hard bastard, relay cover's for pussys. Am now a fully paid up member of the pussy club)

2nd was the Brisk plugs and both of them did the welding trick. Have changed a few spark plugs in my time and always nip the nipple up with pliers.(painfull!) Can only assume higher resistance through the plug and slightly different tollerances of the nipple.
Bike in question is 95RT with 75k. At the time the bike was doing about 2500miles a month so those plugs were about 8k old and if it hadn't started getting rough at tickover they'd still be in there.

Pipe's gone out now so off to wax the rover...

And a message to cookie.. Don't post all the pics i send you or I'll have to tell everybody about your own sparkplug shame
