British Downhill championships round 3 Antur Stiniog.
This was always going to be a big ask for Ollie as we hadn’t been before and it’s right in the middle of his mocks so no time for Friday practice and a late arrival due to traffic so no track walk until Saturday morning. Uplift queues were long so he only managed four practice runs before seeding but he got on with it and felt pretty good.
Sunday morning was bright and sunny at our B&B in Betws-y-Coed but it was raining and misty when we arrived at the track so he got straight onto the uplift for some practice runs. Had a couple of tumbles due to the slate being slippery but enjoyed it nonetheless.
He felt the race run was ok but unclipped at one point after a jump so lost a bit of time.
A great event at a brilliant venue and no broken bones ( that we know of ) !
ARD rock enduro next then up to Glencoe for the 4th round of the British Championship.

Good lad, and good dad for...presumably...keeping on transporting him around the country to participate. (y)

I’m pretty lucky to be able to schedule work around the events tbh and he’ll be off to uni or whatever work he fancies doing in a year or two so just enjoying watching him living the dream at the moment. There’s a girlfriend on the horizon as well so we’ll see how that goes 😂

Ah well...he did well while it lasted.....

Hopefully she'll be a rider too, or want him to continue in any case....or he will continue and she can like it or lump it!
My youngest daughter was a pretty good XC MTB rider aged around 15, had some extra tuition from Jonny Clay, an ex pro amongst a few lads from her school. I took her wherever took our fancy whenever I could...then at around 17...she got her first proper boyfriend and cycling stopped....good while it lasted. (She was petite, wore a kids wallace and gromit cycle shirt that said 'Keep up lad' on the back and took great pride in ripping up steep and hard uphill sections leaving all and sundry in her wake.)

I guess we’ll just have to see how it goes. He dumped the last one because she wanted to spend more time with him but he’s getting older and it will drag you further than dynamite will blow you as my pal says !
