and this as well...
Righto, my exchange is finally going to go broadband next month. I've got an iMac currently, and I'm considering getting one of those wireless modem thingies. Now my dilemma is which one to go for, and will it only work with the Mac or can I use it with a PC when (if) I finally convince herself that we need to change?

I got a Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall router abouyr a year ago. Never missed a beat.

Currently running my iMacG5 and Powerbook G4 with it. VERY easy set up (for the macs).

If you look at the LINK here you'll see it also will deal with Windoze. :thumb

works with both.....

I've got a Linksys router which works straight out of the box with my PC and with my iBook G4 laptop.

I have just gone over to broadband with BT, order it on-line and get the router free!

Being using it a couple of weeks now, excallant.

Laptop downstairs, PC upstairs, both networked and sharing one printer.

Top job I say :thumb

Plus, if you pay an £2 a month you get free calls evening and weekends for up to one hours duration. If it does get to one hour and you are still rabbitting, then just hang up and then call them back and start all again.......... :D

Errr - how exactly, and in which world, would that happen?

I assume you mean "...and the missus is still rabbitting...."

I just checked with the Guiness World Record people. There has never been a successful attempt by any straight non-teenage male to speak for more than 14 mins (including hold time) on one 'phone call apparently.

No quibble with this post but.....
If you decide to change to another ISP for whatever reason, the router is a) still BT's 'property' and b) 'Locked' to your BT BB account details, so not easily 'unlocked' to use for another.

There are many cheaper BB ISP's than BT, so as usual, you pays yer dosh and takes yer choice. It might be nearly as cost effective to buy a decent wireless router from say Ebuyer for @ £45 plus whatever wireless 'cards' are needed for your 'puters. I think the Mac comes with a built in 'Airport' wireless jobbie already, but you might need to check if this is the case.

I bought a 'safecom' router and 2 wireless 'cards' for my PC and laptop total £72. I would probably have opted for a Netgear had I been able to get some recommends from other knowledgeable folks beforehand.

I stand correctly, and yes I did mean the missus... :o

Good reply and one that I did not even think of to be honest

To late now, so I'll cross that hurdle as and when it happens.
