My 1250Rs is due for an 18,000 service in a couple of months and my local dealer is Brockenhurst in the New Forest.
Has anybody on the forum used them for servicing and have any feedback/comments?
thanks in advance

Used them twice and we use them for one of our blood bikes. Good and not so good. On their 3rd service manager in 2 years. I prefer them to Bahnstormers.

Thanks for your response, it does seem I have read good and bad about most dealers when looking at reviews. Anything in particular you weren't happy about?

Wouldn't touch them.
Tried them once because they are closer to me than Bahnstormers Alton.
Didn't even know how to adjust the time on my dash

They took a good 5 hrs to refresh the brake fluid on my 2004 R1150RT. I suspect they gave it to a mechanic who was probably younger than the bike. In their defence the ABS system is a pig but someone on the premises should have known.

I have not used Balmer Lawn for servicing, but I was underwhelmed by Bahnstormer at Alton, their inability to complete work in the agreed time is a PITA when they are over an hour away. That happened 2 maybe 3 times.

Try Motorrad at North Oxford. They've been my go to the last 2 years for servicing & MOT's - been very happy with the service.

And they're probably just as far for you jumping on the A34 to go and see them!

I've only popped into Balmers once and wasn't impressed. I popped in to speak to them about a part i needed/wanted to order, and was guided to the parts desk. Then was told the parts guy is only in every other Saturday. And the guy i was talking to had zero interest in even trying to look, or see the Bike to understand what i needed to get a call back.
So on my way Home I popped to Bahnstormer who looked at the Bike, spoke to a Tech, and got the part ordered in and arrived 48 hours later.....

I previously bought a bike from NOG they were OK, but stopped using them when I discovered CW, who sadly are no longer an option. Dick Lovett at Avonmouth are not much further either, but all of these are big and they don’t give off good vibes.

I have always used Darren Studley, in Dorchester, for all my bike servicing, ex CW motorcycles. https://www.studleysmotorcycles.co.uk/
Excellent service, I've never had any issues with his work. If you're based in Salisbury, he's only an hour away from you.
That is great, but no good if your bike is still under warranty. A lot of independents do not have access to software updates etc. But a good option if you have an older bike.

At present my winter bike is an older BMW, for MOTs and servicing it will go to VP, but for the clutch it’s going BBR an ex CW mechanic. I remember Charlie servicing my GSAs and that’s why I chose him. If the bike was newer I’d be trying Balmer on the grounds I’ve tried all of the others in a 90 minute radius.

how far is your 90 min radius ?
NOG are 82 miles
Dick Lovett are 61 miles

Both are 90 minutes.

I have no need for a main dealer so will use the local mechanic and ex CW people in and around Weymouth.

If I buy something newer and need a dealer my first port of call would be Balmer as they are only 45 minutes away and it’s a pleasant ride.

I ride an hour to get my Ducati serviced at a main dealer, who is at Alton.

Avoid Balmer Lawn at all cost! They completed works on my BMW after a recall. It hasn't worked for two years and I've just found they fitted the wrong parts after being very rude to me.

Avoid at all costs.
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.

Having just read the reply below this epitomises how Poor this company is.

Yes my vehicle is 14 yrs old. It has NEVER had an issue.
The milage quoted is only 30,000 miles wrong. Current milage is 51,845

The aftermarket items were fitted by Touratech 14years ago and NEVER been an issue.

It was No Charge for two reasons. This was a BMW recall and Balmer Lawn messed it up!

Each time I returned the bike you made different excuses for the shoddy workmanship. The bike has been in 4 times with this not two! The fuel pump kink was after the Second Pump was fitted. The first one, I was told by you, was the wrong fuel pump.

P.S. this is the first I've heard that you recommend an electrical engineer as YOU NEVER contacted me as promised.

I have a BMW GS1200 which was recalled for a Fuel Pump issue. Took it to Balmer Lawn.
First time they released it I got 8 miles before it was fuel starved.
Second time they had fitted it incorrectly and fuel sprayed all over my hot tank and myself. A miracle I wasn't badly injured.
Third time it was released fuel starvation again but just stuttering at the approach to Junctions or roundabout. Dangerous.
Fourth time back to the original 8 miles before complete stop.

Balmer Lawns response! It must be an electrical issue. Nothing we can do. This bike had ZERO issues before they had it. I've now waited a month for them to 'Call you back in 48hrs'. I complained to BMW HQ and I've just received a letter saying We understand Balmer Lawn have contacted you and resolved this issue so we are closing the complaint. I've heard less than nothing!

They have effectively rendered my bike unusable. With a Motorcycle holiday pending I'm furious. 2 Yrs this has been going on. I've already lost one tour!

Their call back service is atrocious and having spoken to other BMW riders they avoid Balmer Lawn too.

Your motorcycle is 14 years old and has covered 85,000 miles and has had numerous aftermarjet electrical items spliced into the existing wiring harness. The replacement fuel pump was carried out at no charge to yourself and after you returned the bike we replaced the fuel pump again to rule out a manufacturing fault with the first pump, Again this was carried out at no charge to you. We believe that the running issues you're experiencing are electrical and are potentially caused by the aftermarket installation. We have recommended that you seek the expertise of an auto electrician and we completely refute that the running issues that you are experiencing are caused by the two replacement fuel pump. We are aware that the fuel pump seal was kinked on the first installation but we rectified this.

I have had a similar issue on a software recall on my RT. Total lack of interest. BMW booked the bike in for me due to ongoing issues and assured me Balmer Lawn would refund my travel costs (that included a ferry). Like getting blood out of a stone, calls not returned and uninterested staff. Even the service manager did not return my calls. Back to BMW customer services.
Even though this is my local dealer I won’t go back.
