Sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. There is a reasonable expectation of all goods purchased and a warranty is nothing more than an undertaking from the manufacturer or seller that defects will be corrected during the term of the warranty without question.
Just because the item is outside of the formal warranty period doesn't mean the seller (in this case, not the manufacturer) doesn't have to put things right.
The Which Legal Service provides excellent advice in this sort of situation.
Running screaming into a dealer quoting the above is really gonna get you on the side of the dealer
