Inherited (well, got it for free) and Wunderlich high/wide screen for a 1150 GS, which has a split where the bracket is fitted on r/h side. Don't really want to put in on bike as I assume that the pressure from wind and sheer weight of the screen migh make it come flying into my face at speed:mad:. Is there a way of 'fixing' this or should I take it down to the local tip?

thanks

Martin

Can you "sandwich" the split part between thin alloy sheet or something like that, glued, bolted or both, make it match on both sides & "voila", instant RTW hardcore look!

I repaired a Cee Baileys screen using the following method.

First of all drill a hole at each end of the split, this will prevent the split increasing in size as the screen flexes. Use a router along the split on both sides of the screen, basically you are creating a V effect. Buy some Bostik Tensol 12 glue, this is used to repair aircraft spec perspex e.g as on gliders. Using a pencil brush apply a thin layer of the glue into the V, wait for it to dry and repeat several times until you have built up a layer of glue that is slightly proud of the screen surface. Job done.

I used to repair helicopter screens as follows.

Drill hole at each end of crack to keep it from growing.

Drill tiny holes along each side of crack, 1/4 inch away...

Lace up the crack with locking wire. ( anything would work though... mono filament fishing line would be fine IMHO)

Smear some silicone over it.. (you can omit this step as any moisture that makes its way through the crack is like a drop in the proverbial bucket...

I can Weld that...

so I'm sure if you get hold of a Local Plastic welder. The Tradesperson their self at their home a Beer or two. It will not be Clear But I have welded Bike screens . BJ
