I have sheared three bolts off the rubber mounts whilst removing the bash plate on my 1200, so now I have been left with three rubber 'shock' absorbers around 20mm long sticking out of the sump casing which I understand have an internal bolt which goes into the sump casing. After doing a search I have read a couple of horror stories of failed attempts to remove the studs from the sump casing's which has left me thinking I may be better off using an industrial adhesive to glue the sheared bolts back onto the rubbers...any ideas welcome:nenau

I found two had gone following a service(!) and drilled them out. It involved grovelling under the bike for ages and despite proceeding very slowly and carefully the part of the side came out of one of the castings :blast. This was fixed with epoxy and the other one came out fine. Haven't had any bother since.

Good luck whatever you decide!

Just abandon them, IIRC the later models have a revised bashplate fixing method, and you can retrofit the fixings to the earlier models :rob

This sounds like the route to go down:thumb, do you or anyone have anymore info please.

Cheers

I had a couple split away from the metal bolt.
My solution was to tear off the rubber 'cushion'.
Underneath you will find a flat metal round plate that the rubber was bonded to. I just gripped that with mole grips and it undid. These mounts should only be in finger tight anyway so shouldn't be too hard to remove.
Another method is to bend down either side of the flat round plate and pinch them together, then use pliers to rotate the bolt out. Simples.
When fitting new ones, lather them in copperslip!

Cheers people, got a bit to think about now:beerjug:

Given that the crankcase is aluminium and the bolts are presumably steel would it be easier to remove them with the engine hot? If nothing else it's an excuse to ride for a couple of hours.

Got the bastards out, the rear two came out easy with mole grips the front smaller bastard took a little persuading with a hammer and wood chissel to give me something to get a lttle purchase on with the grips. I ran the engine for a while to heat the sump and that helped do the job.

Many thanks again or all the help...oh and by the way three new studs and rubbers were £17 from Motorworks.
