bt broadband 2 meg question

i've because bt are putting a cap on downloads I've been upgraded to 2 meg free.

but on using the speed test of adsl guide im getting 1261kbps download
and 242 up this seems wrong to me..two of my friends that have been upgraded too are getting the same.

any of you know whats up?

Isn't this one of those 'theoretical speed' things where the actual speed is dependant on the contention ratio IE how many other people are sharing the tube from the local colection point?

I was told something like this with my NTL world BB.......that as more people in the street go on BB, my access to the full speed of the pipe will be curtailed.

Dunno, but that may be what's happening?

It also depends how far away from the exchange you are too.

Still waiting for my upgrade I am still on 1.1Mbps
Reality = 872Kbps download speed and 151Kbps upload. I am about half a mile from the exchange.

the usual contention ratios can be 50-1 so there could be 50 people trying to get online at the sametime as you each with a 2 meg pipe to their house..... Can make things very slow. My connection is very low at the moment although i have a 1 meg connection it is running at 457kps!

tried test over ten times since last night but my speedtouch tells me i'm at 2.2Mbps

does anyone have a number where i can hassel BT yahoo on this, every time i go looking for a number i get lost on there site.
you would nearly think they didn't want you to contact them
