I have just got BT Broadband and plugged it all in. Internet works fine and all is well.

However i have not inserted Disc to put on the BT Software. Personally i dont like all that on PC and just having the connection is good enough for me.

I am asking if it is worth putting it on:nenau. Is there anything that i possibly should have or is there anything that is worth having?

Thanks
Mac:bounce1

My BT was the same, it just works.
I don't think there is anything on the disc you would need. Stick it in and have a look, you shouldn't install anything unless you tell it to.
I agree with you i just want a connection and not the rest of the crap, AOL is the prefect example (of crap that is)

Yeah - as long as your Internet Explorer and mail-handling application work - there is nothing else you need.

As to AOL - It is my understanding that ....... if you ever change provider - the AOL software is almost impossible to remove from your computer :nenau

AOL the Herpes of the computer world:D

No you do not need the BT Openwo Yahoo Bollix - and it won't affect your service by not having it - its their way of having some of your screen's real estate to present their product offerings and advertisers - I think they call it 'value add'

I may be wrong here, but if you wish to reconfigure your firewall for example I think you have to have the software installed - OTH you may be able to download it from their website as and when required

Reconfiguration of firewall settings on routers, e.g. the Home Hub, is through a web interface, and I can confirm that it can be changed without the BT software pack.

Excellent replies guys :thumb Just what i thought

and

Just what i wanted to hear....None of that Crap on my PC ...Bonus:D

I was using the Mac software to connect through to the hub but recently put on the BT software to smooth a couple of problems out...with or without should be ok

:)

No

I installed the Bt Yahoo crap when I first got BT Broadband several years ago. Caused no end of problems. Uninstalled it, eventually after several attempts, and works smoooth as a bell.:thumb
