You can buy bulbs in France and Spain, of course, should one blow.

You've just named 'em - 'cept of course you don't need the triangle on the bike. Coupla spare random bulbs and a high viz vest will keep el rozzers happy.

What I took....

Went last June. Rained all the time, honest picos were flooded and the Pyrennese were draped in pea soup fog.

Still had a great time though

Legal stuff..

Driving licence, both parts (and take a photo copy as well).
Insurance, mot, log book V5 with photo copies.
Passport!

I took a hiviz stuffed in the panniers, never got asked for it though. You are supposed to have bulbs and tools to change them. Took em, never got asked.

Sensible stuff...

Phone and charger, credit card, breakdown cover.
Tyre plugger and a pump just in case. Waiting for hours for a breakdown truck or 5 mins with a plugger kit.... You choose. (stop n go do a good small kit).
Security stuff.
Waterproofs......it rains over there as well. Spare gloves!

Done many 1000s of miles over there, feel free to ask.

A few bulbs, cable ties, some gaffa tape, a hi-viz vest, electrical tape, wet wipes....

....and I take a small reflective triangle,...like the ones you see screwed to posts...it doesn't comply but it takes up no space, is light, and might be handy if a situation arose, and would probably keep the police quiet if stopped (i've always hoped).

I did search high and low for a small light weight fire extinguisher to take last year.....but gave up on that one!

Only really need a hi vis IF you break down. I have been pulled over twice in france for speeding and never been asked to put my Hi vis on.
For what room they take up i would take one.
Oh becareful of speed aswell, the french are getting shit hot on it, spot fine= easy money.
Both times for me I was doing 130+KPH in a 110KPH zone and got a 90 euro fine

I think you only have to wear the high-viz when dismounted after a breakdown...it's not a riding requirement.

A cylindrical one doesn't seem easily stored, but it's an option...if an expensive one.
I decided carrying a fire extinguisher was overkill in the end...but if I came across a small, light one I'd get it.

600g one, £10 ish

600g car fire extinguisher is filled with BC powder making it suitable as a car or motorbike extinguisher where space is at a premium. If you have little space, this is the only alternative and will put out a small fire when needed.

AA card could also be useful if you aren't handy with puncture repairs at the roadside.

And it's worth checking that your insurance covers you comprehensively in Europe; many policies these days default to TPO when abroad, so if you stack it, you get zilch.

Absolutely!!! You do not need a hi viz in France, bulbs are recommended BUT not mandatory. You do not need a warning triangle. Take them if you want or if you feel more comfortable. Hi viz is mandatory in cars and the Gendarmes will check if you are stopped

European health card is a must and is free, Health insurance a must the card only guarantees at most 75% of the costs of treatment and does not cover repatriation to your home or UK hospital.
