Bullet/helmet cams

Cheers! What camera are you using on the bars?

I did this vid, with just a digital camera (not HD)

you could just take a few SD cards and edit the files when you get home. a nice cheap solution that i used to do until i got an ipad.

you can't edit on an ipad, but you can view easily and delete whole files.

Edited this on my iPad using IMovie..... Over 2 hours footage down to three minutes... It's not easy but worth it... Need to do some different mounting positions to vary the film... Got the Gopro HD for Xmas so still experimenting.. It didn't cope to well direct into a low sunshine...

Here is a short extract from a ride which was filmed in HD on the Gopro HD Hero 2 at a setting of 960 with 50 fps and then uploaded to YouTube at the highest quality allowed but it still doesn't do justice to the original image quality stored by the camera. The original file was 50MB but it reduced to 15MB when processed to upload to YouTube.

That's a fab quality vid and I rest my case that head cams give a steadier vid. How do you get youtube to keep the quality?

Cant see the video -poxy ipad, but it sounds like helmet mounting is the way to go. Am gutted, was gonna buy the gopro yesterday but didnt, checked again this morning and was a good 30 euro more!!!!! Will keep my eyes open!

How do you get youtube to keep the quality?
I downloaded Corel Videostudio Pro 4 one month trial and then rendered the video by choosing upload to YouTube HD and the software produced a file that, when uploaded to YouTube, was accepted as HD.

Thanks! Amazing quality i have to say! So it does appear helmet mounting and gopro are the best options.

This is a link to download a full quality version of the video, it is 50MB and will be available for 14 days.

Gs_bust that town looks very familiar, don't suppose your in Hampshire at all :O Won't give too much detail away for security reasons. :thumb

The village I was riding through was called Brasted in Kent which is near where I live.

Oo must have the same one down in the south. It looked very similar :) What helmet are you using, and does the Go pro work best on the side of the helmet or on top? I presume wind plays a big factor when its on top of the helmet ;/

Ok, heres the second edit, with suitable soundtrack and in 720p.

Crank up the volume...Rock On...:JB

Here is the video with image stabilisation feature on YouTube and it works quite well. There is also an Image Shake removal feature in Corel Videostudio Pro that works and of course it can be done before the title graphics are applied.

The camera is attached with the curved sticky pad to a BMW Enduro helmet. I don't notice it there, even when exceeding the speed limit. My wife pointed out this is the view she gets over my shoulder when riding pillion. If I put it on the top, the peak might get in the way of the view downwards, as well as the viewpoint being too high.

My GoPro turned up yesterday :clap

I am still not sure where to mount this on my GSA. Tank obviously is a no go. Rather than sticking to the side of the helmet I was thinking either on the bars OR on the bars protecting the tank

Anybody got any experience or share any pics of a GoPro mounted like this.

Am simply trying to avoid mounting to my helmet unless that really is the best way

Cheers

Engine bars, somewhere you can see it. It's always best, in my book, to have some of the bike in the video. Front wheel, forks, beak or whatever ... gives the video some perspective and not looking like you're looking out of a car window.

Same with rear mounting ... if you get the rear of the number plate, the rear wheel bouncing up and down at the extreme edge of your video it looks great. Had some great footage this way ... especially when being chased round der Nürburgring or the back bumpy roads of Ireland

:beerjug:
