Bullet/helmet cams

Did you use the standard stuff provided by GoPro to mount on these bars or did you buy something additionally?

I know loads of questions, just wanna make sure the thing dont fly off during a trip, and seeing as I own a couple of helmets, I dont wanna mess about having mounts one every one!

You really need a http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/handlebar-seatpost-mount/ to bolt it to the crash bar. The one issue is the go-pro mounts all give just 0 or 90 degrees, so if you want the camera mounted pointing exactly forward, you need to find a bar that's at 90 degrees to the centreline of the bike.

For the GoPro I bought the tripod mounting bit, only about £8.00 and then made a plate up for the handlebars as per piccie.

The Tripod mount is about the handiest mount available ... with a little bit of bracketry it makes mounting and unmounting simple. Mounted on the handlebars you get a great view and I can see the rear screen just fine :thumb

EDIT .... Just seen that I posted this piccie before!

All the airport Dixons have started selling the full go pro range of cameras and accessories, I bought the tripod mount when passing through heathrow this week. They seemed too be out of stock of the hd2 but had the hd and regular hero. Prices were good because no vat.

This shows how good the GoPro can be. It helps if you have a little sunshine.

mmmmm i'm thinking of getting one of these GoPro HD2's. Is the video editing easy? what do you use to edit it?

is it worth getting a mike for it?

Good editing is what makes the video interesting to watch. I haven't tried editing anything yet. You don't get any software with the camera, but both windows and Apple computers normally have free video editing software or there is VideoStudio Pro for about £70. YouTube also has an online editing feature in the Video Manager section. This also allows you to add a music track to the video without breaking copyright laws.

I am going on a group ride to Morocco in late April and want to try to film it. I will try different mounts for the camera and 'pieces to camera' before then to see what works. The camera came with 6 sticky mounts so I am going to stick them over the bike and panniers to get different camera angles.

It could work, yes.

But it could all go wrong and fall off. Better bolting it to a crash bar, or glueing it to your head.

If you have a backup like a lanyard tied to it, and it can't fall into your back wheel if it comes undone, then you might be o.k.

I've one and it's not bad.

Had one of the orginal AEE MD80s that these are all either copies of (plastic bodies, push button switches) or rebranded (metal bodies, slide switches on side). Quality was OK at best, there did seem to be a bit of 'shimmy' when you got a move on though (see sample). This was replaced with an Autocom BikeCam2 which wasn't much better quality-wise but didn't 'shimmy' and, having a separate camera head and recorder was a bit more versatile. Then I got the Huashi AT26 which has full HD capability and quality is great (see my post earlier in this thread).

Mr Boots, :D

yeahbut - is that a 'Real one' or a copy? :nenau
my inside-my-lid-mounted copy took wonderful footage of
