Bullet/helmet cams

I'm looking to buy a bike cam and have narrowed it down to the gopro hd 2, drift hd and the mini hd dvr from dogcam. The go pro appears to produce the best quality video but i'm not convinced by the size of it and mounting options.
Any opinions?

Hi

i asked myself same question, and narrowed it down to two, Go pro or mini Dvrl, chose the mini dvr, remote control,same HD quality, powered from bike as well , used it today very impressed, Go pro very very good, but once you start adding bits like screen, remote control( to come out later) gets bloody pricey, speak to mark or Ed at dog cam, very happy with my choice though.bought the billet ring for it as well.

I had been thinking about the GoPro but was a bit concerned about the size, then I saw them at the NEC 'in real' and they looked a lot smaller, bought one and am well happy with it :thumb2

I am leaning more towards the mini at the mo, mate has an old bullet from dogcam and it's very versatile with mounting, Like the option of being able to see where the cam is pointing before shooting as well.
 
Mini Dvr

Hi

As i said go pro very good, but i think on the bike the mini dvr scores well, also has a car mode when 12v powered, records soon as switched live powers up, records loop fashion, handy if some silly sod smashes into you at t junction, both very good cameras though.I have no connection with dog cam just like there good service and helpful advice

I opted for the drift in the end. I too found it difficult to narrow them down and it came down to price - the drift was on offer. It still is - £100 off! http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ I think the discount is because drift have a new, smaller model which can take stills in 9mp (mine takes stills in 5mp) and they are selling off the old model.

It is dead easy to use, loads of mounting options, a remote control and the screen and twisty lens are really useful to set up shots. It is very light and you don't notice it on the helmet either in terms of it's weight or wind noise. It has a useful feature in that it beeps when turned on & off so you know when you use the remote it is actually recording or not. My only bug bear so far is that the if you use the camera with the mic on you cannot hear much on playback for the wind noise. If you want to catch that throaty exhaust as you run up the Stelvio - forget it. Turn the mic off and dub over some music

They all seem to suffer wind noise, some have low gain internal mics that help a bit.

The Go Pro is hardly an aerodynamic thing to mount on top of a helmet. The drift is a tolerable bullet shape.
 
Got a gopro for Xmas... Not the brand new one but HD....

Mounting on helmet not an issue..

Here's a short vid from playing out last week... Obviously some loss in quality uploading to the web... Looks great here though.. Apologies for dodgy lift music...

Thats a lot smaller than i thought it was, must be the mounting gubbins that make it look bigger than it actually is.

That's why I included the photo, if you watched "I'm a celeb get me out of here" they always use Gopro's on helmets etc. :thumb2 you can even mount the camera upside down but set the camera to flip the image the correct way round, change the resolution, change the frame rate for HD slow motion stuff and even set it to take still photo's every 2,5,15,30 or 60 seconds apart. Amazing quality for the size of the thing.

Can you tell I'm a little impressed, and mines just the Hero, now there is the Hero 2 that is even higher quality (lens etc). :thumb2
 
There are more mounting options for the gopro but £125 for a HD camera with screen and remote is pretty cool. I just got the drift for xmas and its so much easier to line up shots and also being able to start and stop without getting off the bike is great.

This is a headcam vid from the aerodynamic NON HD older drift. The drift lens can be rotated to any angle
Video not exciting cos part of a follow the leader group ride, but it gives an idea of quality. Mic vol needs to be set to minimum on a headcam:

SWIMBO bought me a GoPro Hero Motorsport for Christmas.

It's the best option for me as it'll go on both my bikes, on both my pedal bikes and I'll be able to use it when I go skiing.

I've only given it a quick try out .............. I mean "I found this footage on an SD card that I bought from a boot fair officer" :augie

I've yet to play about with resolution and frame rate settings, this was straight out of the box in it's default setting (No.4)

I didn't tighten up the tip linkage on there suction cup before I left and as a result the camera tips slightly forward as I give it the beans down the slip road.

Best viewed in 720p

I think I'd be removing that clip from general view before someone likes it, and not for the video technique :thumb
