Hi chaps,

Just thought I would pause and reflect on what has happened with me and my bumble since buying her in November.

1) Rear shock replaced with Fournales.
2) Rotten downpipes replaced with Keihan (now fitted ok to the Y-piece).
3) Rear subframe powder coated and reinstalled.
4) battery box painted and reinstalled.
5) Neutral light switch replaced.

Next jobs...

6) Oil and filter change (once I have done battle with the numerous oil threads to work out which oil to get!)
7) Work out why it does not tick over on the choke and needs the throttle blipping.
8) Get an MOT.

Then hopefully on the road alongside my V-Strom. Many thanks to all those who have offered pearls of wisdom up until now, and thanks in advance for all your future assistance too!

I will post some pics in the Para Register when back together...

Take care,

Matt

Not wanting to spook you but
When you start on the oil change / filters bit
As you remove plates etc note how it comes off and the order it comes off
I have read stories off shims /washers being placed in wrong order causing oil not to ciculate where it should
Thats what I do
Someone will be able to explain better than me for sure though :thumb
There a filter in the oil cooler I am told

Tried not fully opening the choke when you start from cold? I havea suspicion one of my chokes is 180 degrees out as it won't start when cold with full choke either. Mines fine when warm or on half choke :)

Out of interest, how long is your Fournales rear shock, from the centres of the lower to upper mounts?

I will take a look at the choke at some point. Probably worth giving the carbs a service. Once warm and off choke ticks over fine. I will do the valve clearances then balance the carbs just to get things a little sweeter. I was going to do some more work this evening but it is a bit chilly in the garage, even with the fan heater. :ymca

As for the shock, I have not got a clue how long it is. It is now on the bike so I can probably measure it ok. It was for the PD I believe, so this may be longer than the standard 100GS? I am sure it will be ok though. :augie

I believe you wanted to know the diameter of my y-piece at the tailpipe end? I will measure it, but I can tell you the standard tailpipe fits and the gasket is needed so should be the same as standard. Once I prised the slotted sections apart at the downpipe end of the y-piece, the new downpipes slid in nice and snugly without any gasket. Looks nice and shiny at the front now.

Jobs for NEXT winter include pulling the whole bike apart and getting the main frame, crash bars etc powder coated. I may also get the tank resprayed as there are a few scratches and bits where the lacquer is worn. I have the yellow "1000" decals waiting. I have also ordered one of the centre stands from 'Bins.

I would much rather be spooked ahead of the job rather than cursing later! :thumb

The gaskets on the choke units often distort and leak.
It's worth getting a pair of carb overhaul kits and doing the lot.

I'd thought that when I remove the chokes I'd need new gaskets, so an overhaul set including new diaphrams will be on order when Motorworks are back from their holidays. Along with new throttle cables and the dainty dellorto rubber sleeves.

good to hear she is nearly done, sounds like it'll be back on the road before mine :beerjug:

I will bimble over to see you once she is up and running.

I just want to get her fairly tidy and mechanically sound for now, and once I have had some fun I will be more comfortable investing further time and money next winter. I have only had one ride, back along freezing motorways when I made the purchase. Not been anywhere since.

You still freezing yourself down at Coryton? :fiddle

back to coryton in the new year :blast
she must be very tidy now, she was quite tidy before :thumb2 there is one thing she needs that you have left off your list...........................................................................................................................................................................................................

Ride her every possible opertunity :D may do the trick with the carbs

you are welcome to pop over for a brew (dont worry i live at the brick built end of Jaywick):D
