Bump start technique?

That jump start lead looks the business.

The advice on the jump start from the solonoid sounds good too, any pics to support the correct positive connection point?

You can buy the jump start connectors from BMW as a retrofit part set. Pretty cheap, too, ISTR. You attach one to the back of the left cylinder & the other to the starter cover, connected to the solenoid contact via a bracket.

I'll photograph my bike tomorrow and stick the pics here. You use the connection that has the main battery lead attached (if you use the other one . . the starter will run :blast ).

There was a thread on this, with pictures, some months ago.

Here are some pics of my '04 1150GSA.

The plastic Starter motor cover has a power socket mounted in it and a positive battery connection poking through it.

Remove the rubber cover and you see the plated metal connection ready for the jump lead crocodile clip

Remove the cover and you can see that the positive connection comes from the upper starter solenoid connection - where the battery lead connects.

The equivalend earthing point for the negative jump lead is on the rear of the near side cylinder - there is a heavy earth cable leading off into the wiring harness here as well.

Hope this makes everything clear :thumb2

But what ever you do, make sure that when you dump the clutch you weren't tempted to put a spoonful of Castrol R in yer tank for that nostalgic aroma. It blocks yer throttle valve wide open, then when it catches, just try holding on.

I don't think there's a specific kit, as such, but take a look at the parts list ...here...

Items 3, 4(x2), 5(x2) & 6

Voyager,

thanks for that very informative post....... I have the same positive point on my bike, but had always assumed it was some sort of diagnostic input or something....... this, for me has ben one of the best bits of info I have gleaned from the site to date :thumb:thumb2:thumb:thumb2

I can see the kit from nippy, but Im still not sure where you got those shiney clamp points. :(

Check post #28... Write the numbers down (I've even itemised which parts you need, but I've got to draw the line somewhere) then contact your local BMW dealer & ask him how much they will all cost. You could probably get them via Motorworks, too.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, either ive not spotted them or I dont have them.

Were they optional at time of purchase?

I didnt realise they were BMW parts. Interesting....

OK, it looks like I dont have any of those parts after a close inspection.

Must have been a optional extra.

I wonder if there is just enough space to get in a jump lead as it stands. :duno

Will make a trip up the road to price up those part numbers.

:roll
