Just back from Morocco when my starter motor decided to stop working. anyway bump starting either down a steep hill with much pushing and moaning or a towing bump start both in 2nd gear, hard work.

anyway this chap turns up, says he's a mechanic and do the bump starts in 4th not 2nd gear.

So easy in 4th! I've no idea why I've always done these bump starts in 2nd but for these big fat mothers 4th is the one...

just in case you have need to

hi

had a flat battery other day . Went to bump start bloke pricks his ears at scrap yard advised me no too as crownweel and pinion can be damaged on bmw motorbikes. Have always been able to bump start bikes ususlly 4th/5th gear same principle as cars in 3rd /4th.
Anyhow jump started with leads just left lights on when connecting leads to stop surge/spike. hope this helps or was a strung a line

Best tip Ive had for bumping is
Just as you bump - press the starter button at same time - it helps only a bit but it does :rob

Or if in company back to back the tyres and get a trolley start that way :)
:confused::confused:Have you ever done this? Can you describe how it was achieved? does the number plates/tail lights etc not get in the way? Sounds like bollocks to me.

I guess if they know your bikes unreliable they design it so its easy to get going again..:augie

Well it's true - every day is a school day:thumb2 Thanks for that. Not sure it is feasible for GS's though..... Stand to be corrected - anyone?

If yer in my company Cuzgs you would have the access to my mini jumpleads
I have seen the KTM back to back
Looks a good way of
A scrubbing 1000 miles of tread off
and
B An accident waiting to happen big style
:rob :thumb2

It's both of those, but it's also an option to keep in the back of your head.......if you need to use it, it's there.

PS actually it's neither, if done sensibly, but it remains an option :thumb2

Years ago I was told that you couldn't wheelie a shaft driven bike as it would snap the shaft.

Also, you couldn't bump start a car in reverse (can't remember why though)...

The idea is to connect the tyre surfaces and then run the working bikes speedup ( whilst driving the non starter ) then let clutch out on NS to bump while stood = Doggy bit is the bike or bikes falling off Center stands wile running in second or third with clutch ooot I recon
It does work and I would have a go as a very last chancer. I nearly always have a pair of jumpleads to help me mates out ( never used um to start me own bike ) :thumb2 Wait till tomorra :rob

Never seen this done before :thumb2

great video's thanks for posting that's made smile...

like the hit the starter idea

I once jump started my 1150 in the woods being towed behind Loz ona KTM 525 - 3rd gear and a little bounce on the sit and away it went.

I had another rolling down a big hill - in 2nd big leap onto the back of the seat and dropped the clutch -folowed by an out of control wheely down the road

Sorry been away, yep this got a french chap sorted for 4 days in Corsica last year, works a treat and dead safe when practiced :)

No choice on initial go as middle of nowhere and traction not good enough to push
