Bye, Bye 1200GS

Had several bikes over the last five years.

To be honest, I can't think of a better bike for filtering and slow riding through towns etc.

Great views, road presence and high riding position for planning your positioning.

Still it's whatever floats your boat.

Stick around though - plenty of non-GS riders on here.

You can filter on a GS or GSA for that matter, more a state of mind really. I've done tens of thousands of miles on the GS in the M25. You only really get stuck on the tightest of spots near traffic lights.

However, I now own the king of filtering and around town work - Honda SH300i. GSA is just for special!! :)

Its gone after 4 months. Not the bike I hoped it would be. I really wanted to like it.

Its too wide for filtering in traffic. Joke switchgear for the indicators. I was just waiting for something to go wrong, given the number of issues raised on this forum.

Good point - I sold it for what I paid for it.

The mint condition 10K mile NX650 Dominator I have to replace the GS suits my purposes 100%, and for 20% of the sale price of the GS.

Goodbye :augie

Fair enough - there is not one bike that will suit everyone and their needs - the GS comes pretty damn close to being that one bike (probably why so many have been sold) but the perfect bike has yet to be built.

Crikey people get a bit heated over these things don't they. Sounds to me like you just bought the wrong bike. When I had mine, I preferred riding my scooter in London. Well, let me revise that, I preferred commuting on the scooter. The GS is capable, but not nearly as easy as a smaller bike in central london. If it was just a bimble, I used to enjoy the GS in london.

Still, sad that you didn't enjoy the bike. If I were purely riding in London, I wouldn't either. For me, it's in it's element on bumpy, twisty A roads.

Okay you tried it and didn't like it. Fair enough. Why come on to the GS appreciation Society's forum and say you hated it? Not enough that you admit to an error of judgement but now you must convince us that it's OUR fault for the comments here.

Sorry mate, we KNOW how brilliant these bikes are but we are also honest enough to live with their failings - it's called character. Surprised you didn't complain about getting wet when it rains

I drive a Landrover - it's rough, noisy and has limited comfort, its slow and handles badly. Oddly these are all the things that appeal to me.

enjoy your Jap bike. Seriously - enjoy it and best of luck to you. :thumb2

Has he gone yet?
schmuck :nenau

I never said I hated the GS. There are many good points, not the least its excellent handling and roadholding, and that grunty engine.

Well you are not alone , I had the GSA for 2 months and I got rid of that piece of junk and returned to the far superior 1200RT ( 3rd one )....

Rob, a pity you didn't get to use the bike in its best environment, eg the Hograost weekend.

Country roads, Salisbury Plain plus the commute to/from the event through some of Englands beautiful and less travelled roads. Its a blast on these kind of roads rather than a fish out of water in dense heavy city traffic.

Maybe you would have bonded better with it and enjoyed it more.

Good luck with the next bike.

Each to their own, surely :augie

Agreed, but why come on and have a pop to the people who are most badly affected by the GS disease:confused: And then why take the hump when we have a go back?

You don't like? Fair enough, go your own way but don't look to us for absolution.

South African Tosser in Essex

Cor! Tell us where in Essex & we can look out for you!

Too wide for filtering ! I have a 1200GSA which is a bit bigger and have no issues filtering through traffic in London each day. Good luck on the dominator, not as much fun as the 1200 though

GSA too wide for filtering?

Bunkum.

Its all in the head, but takes time to develop the confidence.

As others have said - big bike, lights on generally makes for big space. Plus decent horn and 'zorst. Bars go over car mirrors + great view above car roofs.

Its the perfect 2 wheeled Chelsea Tractor and makes pavement hopping (ahem) childs play...

Enduro 1st gear helps a lot too.
