The poor little thing:eek:

If I'd known I wouldn't have washed the bugger:blast

You should have put the bike up for sale
I have a spare spot in my workshop and a big pocket full of cash ready and waiting for such an oppertunity to come along
could have added another 30,000 miles on it and made sure it was properly used, not just run in :JB

Just think about all the bike meets and rallies you will be missing too, and all those excellent European roads lol
looser

firstly sorry to hear of your temporary predicement jon, and thanks for the advice on the balkans on this site an horizons unlimited if you fancy a lightale il be in your neck of the woods abt 30 31 may, le 800gs as for you nob jockey:ymca your comments are beyond belief you havent even got the bollocks to declare who you are, insect comes to mind they havent got spine either:blagblah

Even with Steve's finest graphics I doubt it will get you to Siberia mate... :augie

don't be so sure. There's a fella on Horizons who was planning to go round the world on one. In the end his plans changed but he did the Sibirsky leg of the Balkans on a CB500 :eek. You can even see one of our stickers in the background :augie

Anything will take you everywhere... if you want to :augie

absolutely. Just trying to tweak the ergonomics. Stretch myself out a bit

Cheers Jon, I'm pleased to see that you've kept your sense of humour.

There have been some great posts (and videos) on here, and it looks like you plan to keep them coming. I dread to think what this poor bike is going to be put through.

Long may the Adventure continue.

You know me too well. Phase one is to paint the bike satin black. It was in good nick when I got it from Mort but some things just look better in black. I'm replacing old rusty bolts and giving them a splash of ACF50.

The poor little thing:eek:

If I'd known I wouldn't have washed the bugger:blast

:blast sorry about that old boy. By the way thanks for a smooth transaction. It's nice to be able to keep on truckin.

By the way Harrybo... which woods would those be? :D I'm near the Manchester woods at the moment but come June will hopefully be in the Austrian woods :beerjug:

It's not quite there yet but the forks are now satin black as is the front fender. The plan is to also clean and paint the engine black but I will probably wait until the warmer weather

The tail end will go on tomorrow. The grab rail has had the rust removed and been sprayed. I will make a metal plate that will allow me to attach the adventure spec GiT rear rack. My old soft luggage will go on.

could do with higher and wider bars... (but the budget won't allow yet) but not ape hangers :ymca

Sat nav will go on and I'm hoping to get a fly screen as i was pinged a lot tonight as I rode through the leafy lanes of Cheshire.

Even the sat nav got the black satin treatment :D

Anyway look forward to seeing all you fella's on my continued travels. Once again a big thanks to Mort :beerjug:

Il be passing through austria 30 31 of may, on route to the balkans looks like our dates differ, maybe on the way back then:thumb

Good to see you over the weekend Jon:thumb You've done a cracking job with the new ride. I was truly well impressed......:thumb

Keep smiling mate, keep riding...but most of all....keep the dream at heart....
:beerjug:

It is really nice that you are back on a bike Jon. hope to see you one day.

I would really like to see your bike whole mat black with some shiny chrome parts only.
You know that some guys back in USofA the transform their street bikes to off-road ones (I have seen in Advrider a Ducati Monster like that)...why not to be one of them??

BTW...I really like what you have done at your Zumo...I like it so much ...that I would't have any problem to do it also...

Thanks GZ. I have Mort to thank for my smooth transition and continuation on two wheels.

I have a few updated photos.

The handguards go on tomorrow and the tall "Impala Plus" fly screen next week when it arrives. I have a few more mods I would like to do but they can wait until I have some money. Wider, taller handlebars and some forward foot rests. Maybe some more foam in the seat to make it taller but then that is it. The key thing here is not to spend too much money on it.

I was really pleased with the Garmin. With some masking tape the results are very pleasing. It makes it like new again. I did the same to my battered Touratech handguards. I'll take a few more photos when it is completed.

My intention with this bike is to make it into a half decent overlander. The suspension is feeble. It bottoms out of you ride off the kerb but it will go all day and is easy to manoeuvre around. :beerjug:

looks the business now mate. goes to show that you don't need to spend a whole lot of money on a bike to have some good craic and have something good looking. good on ya Jon :clap

I was at the auction yesterday and saw your bike go. I you're interested it only went for £4100 and looked like it had had quite a hard life. I don't know if it had acquired damage since it left you but it was in a pretty sorry state.

I was there, I wonder how many other Tossers were there.

I thought the 800 looked OK, but went for more than I was willing to bid or I would have had a go for it.

I was surprised at how much the 1200s went for - considering they had unclear history etc seemed a bit of a gamble to me.

WOW!!! I really like that matt black theme... it looks really nice. You have to tell us how you did it..everytime that I am painting something it doesn't look so smooth...even if my nickname is "painter"....
Well done Jon!!

I will totally agree with you!!
The key thing here is not to spend too much money on it.

The key thing is to do what we want and like without spending a fortune for that!!

One of those 1200 was absolutely fukked. I have never seen one in such poor condition and it went for £7k. The 800 was a mess, every panel had damage, the front of the engine was rotten from a top seal leak, the front brakes and bearings were shot, the side-stand was bent and the clocks were damaged. After seeing that I declined to bid myself, especially as it opened for more than i was willing to pay.

agree about the 1200 - engine sounded shite.

Obviously I missed a lot on the 800 - inexperience I guess - more care required next time for me.

That won't have been my bike. I heard mine went for £4200. I looked after it and it had a lot of crash protection. It had recently had new break pads, was well serviced although was due for a service at the time it was going to auction. It was also ACF50'd and had no engine corrosion. The only "damage" was the holes and rubber nipples where the winglets went, the bent left footpeg and the HID taking the silver lining off the inside of the headlight. Other than that it was in good nick. No panels ever got scratched because I had adv spec bars and that clear plastic protective stuff on them.

Plate was MT08 VYB. It had 35,000 mainly road miles as will be verified by others on the 800 section. Mine, Si Johnstons and Micky's are of a similar vintage and all were well looked after as we intended to keep them as long as possible. I dare say there was more than one 800 on offer. I've no idea what they do with them once it left my possession. Maybe if they have a really damaged model they swap bits around to spread the damage across a few bikes. Who knows? :nenau

I had to sign a piece of paper pointing out any damage as I would be liable for it that is why I always looked after it.

panels are not damaged

4585495750_d46255162d_b.jpg

clocks are fine as you can see

Sorry mate, that was your bike. The holes in the sides were there and the cut down seat are giveaways. I don't know what they did to her but she was in a poor state and the front of the engine was knackered, covered in oil and dirt and there was silicon sealant all over the right side indicating the gasket had been recently replaced. The clocks were damaged and had odd burn marks along the top as well. Obviously someone else has been using it since she left your ownership.
