bye bye 800

Just saying what I saw and from the tone of the posts I think it's pretty clear what happened to this bike.

grace us with your sage wisdom them, because from the last pics taken of the bike when jon was relieved of it,

to your Description of the bike, something drastic must have happend......or are you accusing jon of trashing it:nenau

Who cares... Why don't you go and get your maps out and do something constructive like planning your London to Asia ride instead of insinuating some of the things you are...

Jon is a bloody good bloke who most know looked after the bike well. I'm sure neither he, nor the rest of us care what happened thereafter. So there's no more need for your updates thanks...

I seem to remember making constructive comments instead of being critical when you stated you planned to ride from London to South East Asia in a month without visas... :augie

why don't you try and follow a similar approach ?

Never red lined it!!! ..wwhhaatt..

Come to the Bull Dog Bash this year & you'll see a F800GS redlining it down the drag strip ;)

Your old bike was well looked after Jon, cracking job on your new bike buddy.

It doesn't matter one jot. It's not my bike anymore but I've had a shitty day and I'm venting my spleen. jtw000 is making out I've handed back a shit heap and I take exception to that. Anyone that knows me on here has seen me obsess over that bike for two years and so it's no doubt my ego getting the better of me but reading his other posts he thinks all bikes engines rot in the UK whatever that means.

Anyway I'm done now and whoever bought it will have a grand time on it when they get a new set of front pads, a service and another rocker gasket.

Jon. It's fairly obvious from all of your past threads that you were passionate about your bike, and looked after it just like the rest of us. You could have been forgiven (given your fall out with BMW) if your last few weeks had seen you treat it like a rental. But it's obvious from the pics of your bike being taken away that you didn't.

It must be gutting for you to think what has happened to your bike in the last few weeks.

Luckily you had the presence of mind to take those pics, so there can be no come-back from BMW

Just saying what I saw and from the tone of the posts I think it's pretty clear what happened to this bike.

what you say you saw seems to change post by post. First you said

"the front of the engine was rotten from a top seal leak" Then when I challenged you it got worse and you said "People have differences of opinion but a knackered engine pissing oil on the floor, knackered front end, brake pads lower than the new UK government's morals"

How did the bike go from having a leaky gasket to suddenly having a knackered engine and a knackered front end? It seems you have a flair for the fantastical and exaggeration. How could you know the front bearings were shot if you could not take the front wheel off?

A few people showed interest in the bike and I informed them of what was actually wrong with it which strangely you didn't mention? What about the bent footpeg hanger?

The bike was not trashed since it left my possession. It was taken to Peterborough and parked up for two weeks before auction where it sat. The auction house described it as in good condition. Personally I would have said it was in a fair condition for a bike that had done 35000 miles. Average wear and tear.

From what I see you were just trying to get a rise out of me and you succeeded but I've enjoyed proving you wrong and watching you make a prize prat out of yourself for making up porky pies.

I know. I regret that now. Still theres always time to get the CB500 down the drag strip. :)

I'm not gutted at all V8. It was looked after despite what jtw000 says. Why would BMW pick up a bike and trash it when their objective is to get as much money back on it as possible. From my perspective It was in my interests to make it look as good as possible (minus the consumables like front brake pads, the HID problem and footpeg) so that I wouldn't have to pay out more cash on it.

I'm just glad jtw000 didn't get it because judging from his profile he crashes most of his bikes through hedges.

just wanna put my bit in... i was also at this auction and saw this said 800. at first glance it looks ok, i had a look also under the radiator and sure enought, oil all over it with dirt stuck to it, so i checked the near side of the engine rocker cover and sure enough, its bee leaking and not fixed propperly. There also was a strange click and wobble fron the front wheel, this indicated to me a bearing. the side stand was IMO worked but leaned over more than my other two 800's. I dont know the owner nore to i know how it was treated but from what i could tell it had a hard life, every body pannel did have marks on but this also happens in auctions.... i was looking at it to bid but didnt due to the price being way over what this particular bike was worth.

I was there and saw the bike with my own two eyes and this is my description. sorry if it offends but the truth shouldnt be held back.

What on earth is the point of such a post ??

One of those 1200 was absolutely fukked. I have never seen one in such poor condition and it went for £7k. The 800 was a mess, every panel had damage, the front of the engine was rotten from a top seal leak, the front brakes and bearings were shot, the side-stand was bent and the clocks were damaged. After seeing that I declined to bid myself, especially as it opened for more than i was willing to pay.

something for nothing :nenau and still they moan

Just a question who have you pissed off to draw so much incoming fire?

cd01uk I think if you look back through the posts you'll see I made a point of not covering up the leaking Gasket. They all do it. In fact they tend to do it more when ridden at motorway speeds. Mine had been fixed/bodged by BMW 4 times previously. The side stand did lean over a lot but I put this down to a lot of sidewards play in the joint that attaches to the bike. It never took a knock unlike the nearside footpeg. I'd pointed this out. I've no problem with the truth which is why I PM'ed people with all its faults, warts and all.

I'm not sure what people expect a bike panels to look like after 35000 miles but when they've only had clothing and tank bags rubbing off them they will hardly look like they do when they come out of the showroom on day 1. There are plenty of photos on here documenting what the panels looked like in the final days. Which would be better? leave the gasket as it was or clean it thoroughly so there was no evidence of a leak? BMW would prefer the latter and as it was not my bike to sell and only BMW would benefit I felt I'd be serving my fellow GS'er better if I made them aware of the issues.

Cheers Puma. I'd love to know what this "hard life" is? To me a BMW schools bike has a hard life. Extreme panel damage, engine being ragged, dropped many times in all directions, air intake deep in water. My bike had none of that. It covered some distance for sure and I'd dropped it probably 5 times in its whole life. To me I'd called that fair usage.

Just a question who have you pissed off to draw so much incoming fire?

No idea mate but they are all London based, non subscribers :green gri
They should know though that a lot of 800's have the leaky gasket problem and I have a suspicion that there is an expectation from some prospective BMW owners that the bike should be immaculate. I saw a 1200 rider stressing over the fact he had a tiny 2mm stone chip on his fork :blast. I think this is the measure of the beast. Would I have paid £4.5K for it? probably not. I didn't think it was worth that but then the market decides what something is worth. All the things that were wrong with it were consumables that you can pick up from motorworks for very little. Brake pads are only £16. Bearings again if needed are cheap as chips. The gasket would be covered under warranty. A lot whinging from supposedly seasoned bikers.

To the naysayers, GSer's use their bikes while BMW club owners polish them with cotton buds and leave them in the garage all winter. :hide

(Apologies Simon, I know you have a 1200 but at least you use yours and its seen more than one continent :thumb)

just making a point, i dont care whos bike it was or is, or how you say its been looked after, just reading through and noticed JTW getting a slagging off for saying what he saw. i saw it too so i put it up on here.

As far as i was know, this is a public forum and anyone can put up on it and make their observations.

Srace7 : unless you have an answer for the post, dont bother... thanks :D

JTW000 got a slagging because his story changes from post to post. It had a leaky gasket. Then he said oil was pissing on the floor and the engine was knackered. That my friend is lies and absolute bollox. I'd already pointed out what was wrong with it ad nauseum and that is my final word on it. As Murphy's law states. Never argue with an idiot. People might not know the difference. I'm not calling you an idiot but if you look through all of Jtw000's posts you will see his had a flair for exaggeration and not exactly telling the truth. That's all.

Yes it is a public forum but new users with few posts could also be the same user with an axe to grind. With many posts and a subscription just like an established ebay account comes trust.

I think the original posters have the option to close threads. So if you 'happy enough' that this thread goes no further close it.:thumb2

I'm happy to leave the thread open. If I don't like a post I'm happy to leave it open as part of a two sided debate. There are enough positive posts from people I would now consider friends on here for me to draw strength from. Just because a couple of people who attended a bike auction at the end want to detract from that, well that's up to them.

i agree i wouldn't close threads, but not sure if you knew about it..:thumb

Unsurprisingly I do have an answer - that was another worthless post by you... There was no point to jwt's post and there is none to your's...

jwt deserved a slating for his post about his stupid notion that he could get to SE Asia faster than Nick Sanders. But he didn't get one...

he got constructive advice... From me in particular. So why don't you try constructive instead of joining in a rather vindictive and destructive stance...

Oh... And if you want to enjoy the forum at least join to be a subscriber...

I didn't realise I was getting a slating, I thought you were getting a slating for not showing your bike any respect. How wrong I was. I guess if you can't look after a machine then maybe you shouldn't have one?

Going by your profile I guess that applies to you also. cock. :blast

That's a bit out of date. Sadly you're still currently a cock. Never mind, hopefully the bike will find an owner that is up to the dizzying responsibility of not turning into a worthless pile of scrap and then losing it.
I reckon you've done enough here to show what sort of person you really are when people have done nothing more than to comment that the bike for sale at the auction was in a poor state which was backed up by the solid evidence that it only went for £4100 to a dealer who was asked twice if he wanted to bid. Yours is the only story that doesn't follow the facts. Your bike was poor, very poor and it seems quite clear that you were the cause of that. More evidence of your attitude is that eventually the bike was taken from you. That's all anyone needs to know but the icing on the cake is your childish personal attacks on people actually telling you something you don't want to hear. I think you need to take a good long think about your life and remember that if you're too stupid to get yourself out of trouble at least shut up so people don't realise just how far your stupidity goes. You're also rude but you make me laugh.
