Cafes, coffee stops and favourite greasy spoons in the North West

Anyway, back to The Cafe, Tarvin. We finished our brekky with a Turkish coffee made by the lovely Ozgay. Didn't sleep for two nights, tiz stronger than a pint of Red Bull.:bounce1

The Nook Farm Shop & Cafe just outside Alston on the Brampton road is my current favourite. Good food in a beautiful location with great biking roads in all directions (y)

Must be going backwards as it gets more and more popular , we popped in today and the coffee was okay but the bacon and sausage butty was served in a stale supermarket bun . Will not be rushing back

Sedbergh. There's a new coffee shop on the high street called Mug Story. Excellent coffee, which the town has been lacking for a long time, some nice looking cakes, and warm pies. Worth a visit.

Rivington Barn Café. Had a nice lunch of avocado, goats cheese and poached eggs on sourdough bread. Not sure what the small red berries were and I forgot to ask.

Meanwhile, Al went for full on cholesterol on a small loaf.:bakerman:

This place has improved itself over recent years and has a large outdoor seating area with overhead canopy. Usually frequented by walkers and bikers.
Best visited mid-week.

The top one looks like a pudding to go with the bottom one; :D :beerjug:

The bottom one looks tasty and filling but the top one looks like veggie shite. I’ve not been for years but it was pretty shit when I last went. Mainly GSXR, Fireblade riders moaning about the police.

Basecamp cafe and farm shop on the A66 about half way between Penrith and Keswick. The turn off can be difficult to spot (south side) with only small signs and it’s on a fast stretch of single carriageway but if you see Alpacas in the fields you are very nearly there. Frequently used by the Cumbria Moto Guzzi GB club and when I’ve been there there’s always been a few bikes parked. Big spacious cafe, farm shop selling lots of local delights, butchery and bakery. Even sells booze. Toilets are currently a bit crap though - a portaloo and a prefab site hut type room. I guess they are being updated or something.

I can recommend this too, a group of us stopped there for breakfast on the way up to Scotland earlier this year, it was very good and we were well looked after.

I think their definition of crispy/well done bacon is different to mine, so five points deducted. The sausage was good, no points taken off, but an extra twenty points added for the tasty waitress with the fabulous chest.

I'm beginning to believe you're a good sized bangers enthusiast.
(I just looked at Post #113 as confirmation).

Had our first stop of the year at one of our regulars yesterday in the sunshine.
Tastebuds Cafe, The Wharf, Rufford by the marina, Lancs.
An extensive choice of homemade cakes, all served with a great brew in bone china cups on the patio.
Recommend on a warm day.

I had a debate with FatAl whether the jam or the cream should be spread on the scone first. First world problems.😊

Great breakfast there too, it's not far from my place. Pass it most days going to work.

Jam first then cream.
Just because its very difficult to spread jam on cream lol

Exactly. There should be that much cream that one cannot spread it. A huge heap of cream.
Fekkin heathens. 😉 Try spreading proper clotted cream on top of jam. Impossible.
I suppose you put jam on your toast and then butter it eh? No, thought not. You probably get off your bikes on the right hand side too don't you?
Weirdos. :D

Edit: I keep thinking it's Friday me 😜

Why would anyone try to spread clotted cream? It should be spooned on and piled high not spread. Piled at least an inch high preferably higher.
Err, isn’t it Friday yet?

This was clotted cream, so nice and thick and was spread on as butter substitute. The jam was far more viscous and spread easily over the clotted cream base layer.
For more information on cream teas and scones please re refer to www.icantbelieveitsfullofchlorestrol.com/healthy_living
Ivy ever even attempted to spread clotted cream it’s usually piled at least an inch ch or more high on the scone. Basically piled as high as I can get it.
