Can anyone tell me why my 2610 after down loading a route from map source to the gps, it will run ok untill i make a wrong turn, then i get the of route recalculating but on the screen it has the message "Calculation Error"
The unit does not recalculate and the message stays there untill OK is pressed.
The unit will then go to driving mode. Then i have to go to the route menue and press Resume Route, But it does not resume the route from the present position,
so you have to find your way back to the route before it continues with directions.
I should say that it does not happen with every route down loaded just some and the last time i had this trouble a couple of days later the unit packed up alltogether just as i had started a tour of Norway. I returned the unit to Garmin and i got a replacement unit. Can anyone help?
Cheers JJohn

Can you actually plan a route and follow it entirely on the gps? (no probably)

Sounds like you might have not included the routing info in mapsource when building the mapset.

It can probalby follow a precalculated route but the minute it needs anything extra to autoroute it's stuffed as the data's not there.

There's a little checkbox in the bottom corner of the screen on the maps tab that tels mapsource whether to compile in the routing data to the maps.

I've had the same thing a few times with my Quest. I haven't managed to find a total solution, but the following seems to make it happen less frequently:

(1) Check the Garmin site regularly for the latest mapsource and map software.

(2) If you downloaded a route that was used by someone else, recalulate it on your unit or on the correct version of Mapsource that is compatible with your unit (as above) so that the route is in the best possible format.

(3) Occasionally delete existing disused waypoints from your handset, I'm not sure about the 2610, but the Quest starts to do some strange things when you approach the limit number of waypoints.

(4) When you ask your handset to recalculate a route, try to be on an actual road somewhere (rather than in a car park, middle of a field, etc)

Maybe this helps.

Thanks for that, So i should select the maps i am going to use for every route i plan on mapsource and insure the box is ticked.
Should i reload the maps to the gps and make sure the box is checked?
I have a 2 gb card so i can get the complete mapsource on it.

Yep. If that's definitely what's happened, and you're in the position to download the whole lot to a 2gb card, that'll be the way to fix it. Either that or make sure you've clicked all the tiles that bound your routes when you've zoomed out far enough to see them all.

I defer knowledge on whether a 2gb card is readable though, to someone else who's done that. With a quest and 200+ mb free space I've only got the uk on it anyway, and a keep the list of routes simple for holiday trips. If I were using it day to day for work, it'd be a different matter.

Thanks again, I have down loaded the maps again and when making more routes in future i will make sure i click on all relevent tiles and try again.
