What a country Cambodia is!!! Stunning and very testing. I have just come back from 2 of the best weeks of my life riding a Honda XR 250 Baja around Cambodia/ Its a long flight, LHR to Dubai then on to Bangkok then phenom phen ,30 hours or so. i was Medic for the trip so had to be fully litted for any emergency . We set off from phenom phen had a blessing at a local temple then it was a blast into the Jungle. You cannot stray off the trails as there are still 4 million landmines out there and people are still loosing limbs. Apparrentley more bombs were dropped on Cambodia than used in the whole of WW2
The riding was tough lots of sand and 40 degree heat.A few suffered but we were a pretty fit group of guys. The roads vary from red sand to full tarmac but our route was jungle paths going from Angorian temple to temple. The temples go back to 700AD and are amazing in there detail and size. The bikes were fantastic strong and reliable and fun to ride. We had one serious accident ,when one of the riders hit a tree laid across the road to warn you a bridge was down It was so dusty he didnt see it was cata paulted over the bars and broke hios left hipand wrist .
I loaded him up with drugs and we gaffer taped him to a plastic chair and got him to a local hospital for an X Ray. Unfotunatley it was Chinneese New year and no Doctor was avaialable We eventually got a Radiologist to come by scooter from Vietnam and he took the xr which showed a fractured neck of femur and wrist.
After 4-5 hours on the phone to the insurance company a Helicoper E Vac was agreed and he was airlifted to Bangkok general for surgery.Apparently the service was amazing and rthe nurses gorgeous ,so much so that when I rang to check all was well he told me to call back as he was enjoying a bed bath
We carried on without our injured rider knowing he was well looked after.
Food was fantastic and the local Anchor beer refreshing.
The trip was also to an extent following the Mekon and you couldnt help thinking you were some extra in Appocalypse Now!!
The women out there are gorgeous and seem to like Westerners despite the History,If I was not a Happily married man I'd be out there to live like a shot
The trip ends in Seam reap site if Anchor Wot the largest Angorian Temple in the world. We had a Mad night out ending up in a Cambodian Rave in the middle of now where Talking carefully to Ex Kymer Rouge soldiers who now seem to be involved in certain interesting activities
In Short Go Do it if you can. We were very much a Reccie trip working out how to do the trip. It will be marketed from April this year by Globalenduro who do India africa and the himalayas www.glocalenduro.com . It was the best thing I've done on a bike. Thanks to Nick Zeman Debs ang Leng our local dirt bike god who could fix a puncture in 12 minutes!! .

Excellent pics, looks like you had a lot of fun!

+1 on the Baja, I've got one sitting in the garage at the mo, but bollox to that bridge crossing, know where I'd have ended up ;)

looks like you had fun:thumb2

what was the bike like?

The Bikes are Effective if a little crude but man they go anywhere!! I loved mine in stealth grey ,the twin lights look cool. Electric start no kicker and proper off road tyres. On the highway it would pull 130kph but in 40 degree heat you run the risk of a seize if you run it a full throttle for too long. I fell off mine about 20 times and only managed to bend the bars and re fracture 2 ribs that I did in the Himalayas last september. I loved it and will look out for an XR Baja from now on as a cheap off roader:thumb

That looks awesome. I have to say after doing Africa with Global Enduro this year, I quite fancy Cambodia in the next couple of years :thumb

i was thinking that meself...a baja like the one you had looks pretty:cool:

I'm not sure you'll find one all that cheap over here. I can't remember how much I paid for mine, but most trailies at the time were over a grand.

I don't know if the ones you rode had been fettled with, but as standard they can run pretty poorly, there are a whole load of mods you can do to them really cheaply that completely transform them.

Interesting that one had no kicker, I thought the Baja came with both as standard. Shame mine hasne still got those lights, they do look cool - never seen any like that in the UK though.

XRs are great bikes, really bullet proof engines!

Sounds great. I'm off to Thailand on Saturday and will be in Seam Reap, Cambodia, two weeks later. Not on bikes, unfortunately, just playing tourist.

Cambodia on XR250

Bob

I did Cambodia in November last year and I agree with you its FANTASTIC.

I did South Africa in 08 which at the time was awesome but Cambo is miles better so it you can only do one then think Cambodia.

The team over there make it did you meet up with Richie he's a one off dude.

Hope your patient is recovering ok, its no fun being being in hospital.

Great write up

Japes

Now you can go where people are one

What you need, my son:.

Looks awesome

Nice report and pictures Robbo, thanks for posting.

There is one picture that is just so right, and I bet you hesitated before posting it, but it just makes you want to be there, feel the heat and smell the cooking.
