well done stu you did us big bike riders proud, it just shows realy how tough it is. pissed off i couldnt ride with you guys this time we need more footage like that it shows that even easy going is hard on a monster bike well done.... i hope to be a thorn in you k t m riders side very soon .!!!!!!

Probably not, he's never had them fitted to his bike on the previous rallies i've seen him at!

The X-Challenge does not have rear foot pegs or any way to attach them - but it should have indicators.

Might be worth clubbing together and putting our money down by rising an official protest - I'm sure it is supposed to have indicators as well ;-)

Stu has raised an issue with the organisers on a couple of bikes - namely a Suzuki DRZ E (which is really and enduro bike in the trail bike class) and someone registering on a big bike and then riding a small sports bike.

I think if we send nice emails we can sort it out so the trail bike rules and regs are consistent
 
The X-Challenge does not have rear foot pegs or any way to attach

Take a look on the rear subframe spa, approx behind your heels when sitting on the bike, there are two plugs in holes on each side. These are where the footrests for the rear are mounted. It was a factory option from new, but very few bikes had them from new.

Just make some small brackets to afix a pair for this event if you want to run trailbike class.....

The only reservation I have with this, is that the organisers have enough on their plate sorting out the land access for us, without some petty squabbles over what does and doesn't constitute a trail bike. :nenau
When I entered my first rally (Hafren circa 2000ish) it was on an old Yamaha TTR250. The tyre regs of the day were trail tyres for the trail class, and I was on enduro tyres. I was fretting that if my new tyres didnt arrive in time, I would be riding in the Sports class. An older and wiser competitor asked me if I was thinking of troubling the top three on the day, and if I wasn't, why the feck was I worrying about it. :thumb
Enjoy your ride, get your times, compare them with your mates/nearest rival/bloke who p*ssed you off in the queue. Then do it again next year!

Anyway, I told them my rear footrests were in the van. :green gri

from what the scrutineers were saying there were complaints from the sports bike class from the previous runs that bikes were in the trail bike class without indicators/footpegs so they were being strict about this time round ... only it looks like only myself and a tenere actually got moved into the sports class. makes no odds to my times or position (last) but any policy should be applied evenly. At the ryedale they provide a list of what class your bike is in irrespective of indicators/footpegs etc. which i think is the best way forward .... at least then i could take off my indicators and save them for the following weeks commute :augie
 
The WTRA had a list of bikes approved for the trail class its where the one for the Rydale came from, probelem is it needs someone to amend and update it every year .

We are quite happy to keep a list of trail bikes together - we are having to do this for the Big Bike Rally Challenge anyway - we should have a get together next week to kick the list off - we will use the WTRA list as a starting point and update it.

I agree - I think the only person I think it would be fun to protest would be Big Bri (it would just be funny ;-) to see the reaction)

On this occassion it is not really fair that some on the same type of bikes are in Sports class and some in Trail class
 
A potted history of Trail Bike Rallies

Way back in 1996 (I think) WTRA "invented" Trail Bike Rallies and ran the first Cambrian Rally. We had been asked to run a new type of event by the then KTM importer - Gordon Jones in Ledbury.

The idea was to allow the late John Deacon to get some additional practice in preparation for the Dakar - John was a very good friend and at that time was a KTM "factory" rider. John became a BMW factory rider in 1998 riding the 900RR :bow:bow and died whilst competing in the Masters Rally in 2000 :tears :angel :tears

I was then a member of the ACU Trials & Enduro Committee and "invented" the rules and regulations for Trail Bike Rallies, the same basic rules that are used by all UK events to this day :rob I also drew up the first list of Trail and Sports bikes which has been updated a few times but not for a few years.

The first Cambrian Rally had about 35 entries, the second 180 and for a few years, when we had access to the Sennybridge Ranges, the maximum 300 entries were taken with a week of entries being available - and we had to turn away about 100 each year. From 1999 to 2002 (when I had a big accident on my ex John Deacon GS) I used to set the course and times on my GS :thumb2

As Trail Bike Rallies became more popular several other off-road clubs asked for copies of the rules and began to run other events, hence the Hafren, Rydale etc.:clap

The problem of differentiating between Trail and Sports bikes has always been an issue, the original reason for thr two classes being to give non-competitive trail riders a chance of winning an award. As in all competitions though it soon became apparent that "winning an award" was too great a lure for some riders and some very good enduro riders chose to ride in the trail bike class on "modified" trail bikes - I have some old entry forms that state that any rider who had come in the top 10 of any class in the British Enduro Championship could only enter the sports class :mad:

If anyone whould like to maintain a list of elegible trail bikes WTRA would be only too happy to use it, indeed if anyone wants to vet the bikes at scruitineering we would be happy for that as well - or has the time come to just have a single class with a number of capacity sub-classes? :hide
 
I think it works just fine for the majority and as long as there is post 89' modified multi cylinder over 50 soft southerner class I'm happy.

BTW I thought stage 2 day 1 and in revervse stage 1 day 2 was a great trail bike stage - Cheers
 
stop it ! put craig on any bike there on sunday and he would win indicators and footrests good riders will allways win no matter what they ride
