I'm heading for the Stelvio area in July and looking for somewhere to camp for a few nights but can only find one campsite in Livigno and it doesn't take tents. Found a nice one in Bormio that does but there's not much in the way of a town for a stroll and a drink after a good days riding. Any ideas?

we stayed at the camp site halfway down the stelvio the other year, its good but as you say its a fair walk down to the very posh hotels resturant,by the time we had eaten and drunk a bit it was a right slog walking back up to the camp site.

yep struggled on to a small site south of bormio afew years ago that had a decent place to eat but was well out of the way. have you thought of the north side,we stayed in glurns one year, very small site but ten minutes to the little village where we found a small supermarket and a fab little takeaway pizza place

Apart from the Town of Bormio of course :blast

I really liked the place, and the preserved cobbled old town area was lovely, and busy with lots of bars and restaurants, as well as the bars and restaurants in the newer parts of town, OK it is not exactly Kavos when it comes to nightlife, but you should be able to get pissed and find some grub to soak up the beer easily enough.

Sorry, I meant near Bormio 'Camping Cima Piazzi' to be exact but it's more than a stroll away. Thanks for the help. Think I'm going to go with BD on this one to Glurns. Choice of two.

A shame as it is a nice little town, have you looked at livgno? I am sure there were people camping close to the "town" itself when we were there, plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, and petrol for about 85p a litre.

The price of fuel is the best bit about livigno, unless you happen to be a smoker/drinker to :)

Campsite in Sondalo, via guiseppe Verdi, €12 a night, ask for Tommy! Very friendly & the town is 5 min walk away, spent 2 nights here a week ago! Very clean & quiet!😊

http://www.campingpemont.it/ we stayed here for a couple of nights, pay shower, and the facilities were clean. Mainly orientated towards camper homes, but the site was clean and well grassed and a 15 minute walk to town. I cannot remember how much but I do remember he charged us for 1 tent instead of two.
Facilities are underground and at the time they were building a bigger shower block. Would happily go there again.

Straydog, That's the place where I want to stay in Livigno for a few nights but thought they only had campervans. I'm glad you've stayed there. Roll on the 2nd of July. Three weeks of touring bliss. :clap :JB :camping

WE were there in July, it was quiet, only 3-4 campervans, I do not remember any issue about having a tent. The sites are grassed, with a paved area in front to park the bikes on. A couple of good bars in town,
