Hello

Can the camshaft be inserted out of position/ alignment?

I remove the cylinders and I notice that tappets are not totally aligned with the camshaft. Some of the tappets only work half of the diameter in contact with the camshaft.

Is this normal? When I changed the timing chain I didn’t notice any misalignment (but was not looking)

Think Bernardo ..:)
The cam hits the follower and turns it a fraction as it lifts and drops the follower..
This rotation evens out wear and tear and stops high spots forming.

Check for any cracks in the case hardening of the followers and if any have highspots...
In answer is yes in either case, replace them :thumb2

That did cross my mind…. but the rotation of the tappets will also cause some wear in the aluminum block…

Thanks any way. Now I can start the engine more relaxed…

To ride again it’s “only” missing:

-Rear bevel assembly
-Rear wheel
-Adjusting the valves
-Fitting almost all the frame
-Painting the plastics
-cleaning the carbs
