hello

What is the standard camshaft in the R100 engines?

Does any one see any real advantage in using a different one?

the market is full of options… 320º, 330º, 332, asymmetrical, …

I know that it depends a lot on the driving style. I use the bike as my everyday work/house transport and besides that I do some off-road in the weekends. I also use it loaded in off -road situation (I went to Morocco’s this year)

I never use very high revs and I’m looking for torque and better fuel consumption.
I have 10.5: compression (MAHLE shorter barrels and Wossner light pistons)

thks for your wisdom

the 308° is the standard camshaft. The 320° is the common sport camshaft used, unfortunatly BMW are now having these made in China. Richie Moore had a problem with one wrecking one of his race engines due to the cams being ground incorrectly so if you want a 320° try and find an old one.

MY RS had a 320° cam in it and felt good all the way through the rev range with a nice surge at the top end but lacked the torque of the 308° at the very bottom end of the rev range. Not sure why you'd change from the 308° though, seems to be a good all round cam.

Personally I'd spend the money on a dyno run and getting what you have running perfectly, you will be suprised at the extra power and torque you gain from getting the standard jetting right, you will also be suprised how far out the jetting is on the standard 40mm carbed bikes - doesn't seem to be such an issue on the 32mm carb bikes.

Are you sure you don't mix 320° and 336°? There has been reported problems with the 336° and cam followers for at least a year. Not sure if it's solved.
As far as I know the only 320° manufactured by BMW is the one for Switzerland but there are multiple other types from HPN, Schleicher, Siebenrock, Lottmann etc. It's important to remember that one 320° from one supplier might be different then one from another supplier.

There are (at least) two different 336° camshafts but I don't think it suits your needs.

I just want low rev torque…..

Does any one know the specifications of Israel asymmetrical camshaft?

they describe it like this:

“Asymmetric camshaft for R80 / R100 Models from 1980 (electronic ignition)
The asymmetric camshaft from Siebenrock has been designed for all 2V Boxers from the model year 1979 onwards and provides a convincing and powerful performance over the entire revs range.
We would highlight especially, however, the mid-range revs in which the power of the machine is effectively assisted by the use of this shaft.
Very good response and a more than convincing torque in pulling away are immediately noticeable. “

and any commend on this one?

I put the Asymetrical cam in my R100 RT. it revved like crazy with various other mods such as twin plug, gasflow, conti type 40mm exhausts etc etc. It also caused the destruction of the engine when I overrevved it, causing a valve to drop later down the line!

Cam is still in engine, which now incorporates the rest of the seibenrock 1070 kit, works very well at all revs, with a nice kick at around 5000 revs. this engine now has about 5K miles on it with no probs.
