Hi Folks
Just bought a 2006 1200GS Adventure and wondered if an Optimate can be used on it ?? Also I've got the BMW cigarette lighter type connector thingy for the Optimate, can I use this ??
Cheers
Andy

Can it be used? Yes but only if connected directly to the battery.

Cigarette lighter thingy? No, you want to use it via the auxiliary socket.

Yes, I have been using an Optimate, no probs, it charges the batery perfectly! however, as Waping mentions, you have to connect the Optimate directly to the batery.

I remember to read somewhere that in order to use the GS auxiliary socket you need to use the BMW battery tender (I am not sure how much is the cost).

You can use the optimate trailing socket wired directly to the battery then tuck it just under the side panel/frame to save removing the seat every 2nd or 3rd week for charging/cycling. Make sure the folding rubber cap is intact and seals ok.
It would of course go without saying only power this up when engine or ignition is off.
This is what I use but i'm still thinking of getting one of the yellow top super duper batteries before the standard one exceeds 12 months old.
