OK, so I currently have BMW Connected ride SP phone holder (factory fit) installed on my R12nineT. I have also fitted BMW Sat Nav holder with their cable and white plug ready to insert in to the wiring loom socket. On inspection of the socket there is a Bluetooth BMW module already plugged in. Obviously part of Connected ride installation. Now if this is unplugged and I attach the sat nav cable this will power my Navigators but will need a software update to allow full function of the controller wheel. So my question is does the GS911 have the capability to do this software update or can only BMW Motorrad perform this function?

Thank-you for any responses. 🙂👍

No

I can't see anywhere on the GS-911 software that would allow you to install 3rd party software

I don't know the R12nineT but don't you just push up on the left hand button that puts the display into Nav mode which means the wheel would work with your nav??

It works for me on my R1250GSA??

It may not need any updates at all.
It’s canbus so the one plug is all it needs to the Nav cradle and you may well find d it simply works.
Failing that then as long as you can find the correct body code for the Nav cradle instead of the Connected (if it is different) then E-Sys will code that.

Thank you for responses everyone! Logic would dictate that adding the BMW Sat Nav cable by unplugging the existing BMW bluetooth module, that it would only be a matter of selecting the appropriate device in the ecu software. (I'm not familiar with GS911, so don't know the terms or layout of its functions). There would be no 3rd party software involved. The BMW instruction sheet above does describe it as updating the system software, although the detail is not in that section. Wouldn't it be useful if we had access to the Motorrad System instructions.

The 911 can only enable & disable function that already exist on the bike it’s being used on, it can not add functions from 3rd party hardware of software
Not adding anything 3rd party, just BMW'S navigator cable cable.

You made this statement thats why I said it...

As I said though on the GS/GSA all you do is push and hold the menu button ((i think its the menu button, left hand grip) when you plug in a Nav device and the system switches the software over (indicates on the bike screen with 'NAV') so that you can use the wonder wheel (but its still limited in what you can do)

R12nineT has twin clocks with small digital display underneath each dial.

By software update are you thinking a clean install of a system software file or do you mean making a change to a selection within the system software?

Well a software update means new code to either fix an issue either or allow a new function that didn't exist before

I think you just mean turn an already existing function on which is what a GS-911 can do...if your bike has that software installed and your bike is able to use it

Bike has Connected Ride factory installed (with controller wheel). I have the BMW sat nav cradle cable so want to plug that in instead. However, swapping the plug over to the sat nav does not enable the wheel controller functions to work in the navigator. So I'm looking for a definitive answer, can the GS911 switch this on or only a BMW Motorrad dealer.

The only people that can answer this are ones with the same bike and a GS_911 sadly as the GS only shows the functions available when it reads the modules fitted to the bike

As someone else has said its canbus so I don't see why not....but

I would happily plug my GS in to your bike and check but depends where you live (it doesn't use up any licences to just look only to make changes)

Thanks for the offer Big cats 🙂👍 I suppose another way of looking at the question would be, if one has a Navigator setup on a bike with wheel controller. Is there a section that GS911 can see that would switch on a Connected Ride controller (The Bluetooth module).

I can say I do not see it in the view of a GSA

I just thought BMW would make it the same for all modern bikes to turn NAV function on and off via that switch on your bars but doesn't look like it

Sorry not much help

No, that does help. I expect it's not a function currently available in GS911 but may be in future. Hopefully Mr BMW Motorrad will do it easily during service.
