My recently acquired1150 GSA came equipped with Ard case panniers. They are fantastic panniers but I'm not a fan of metal luggage.
I would like to fit the black BMW Touring /system panniers. Can anyone advise if this is possible please?
The bike has lugs on the pillion footrest hangers and I realise I will need the rails to hang the panniers on. As far as I can see, the main issue is whether the rails can be fitted to the GSA..?

Pic attached to show the mounting points on the bike, with tape measure .

Its 14.5 inches between the bolts/studs that the metal frames are attached to.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes ...

Here are a few photos hope it makes sense the rails bolt on where you see and the lugs on the rear footpegs are important to attach the bottom of the panniers

When fitting the pannier rails, don't forget the 2 'spacer blocks' at the rear fittings
Many forget them
If you do, the panniers can foul the rear of the bike - drive train or exhaust etc

Top tip, Thanks John-- I noticed those on Motorworks website whilst trying to cross check fitment but wasn't sure if I would need them.

Many omit the 2 rear spacers

I have bought bikes where one or both is missing and takes a while to work our why the pannier is clouting something

I’ve got a 2003 1150GS with the Black plastic touring panniers . In a rash moment I bought some old original TT Zegas but now realise it’s not so easy to find the frames/racks. Anyone got some frames ?!

I don't know what the Zega's are like fitment-wise ....but would it be possible to get frames from another manufacturer and move the mounting points on the rear of the boxes?

Sell the Zega's, ride to Lincolnshire and swap your OEM stuff and some £'s for the 'ard cases :nenau

To clarify the above, the rails i have are system rails for R1150GS, not zega's. It was aimed at steadysteve, not Nick the Ship.

Thanks Gordon-- looks like I am fixed up with panniers and rails but thanks anyway.:thumb2

Fitted.

Easy enough-- just nuts and bolts, recode the locks to match the ignition key. Generic Chinese topbox matches quite well I reckon.

That looks very nice Steve :thumby:

Cheers Ric... It was a lovely bike but it's your panniers that made all the difference.:thumb2
Pity I couldn't get on with the wide tank on it-- it gave me achey hips after a few hours riding so I sold it recently to a young guy from darn sarf. He was a bit taken aback with the weight of it, as was another guy that was the interested.
Matey had big plans to conquer south America so at least it's going to get used as intended.
