Hi Guys , I admit im a complete fukwit when it comes to this nav iv and basecamp,
Ive never been able to get it to do what i want to.
even following the prompts and im about to drop kick the piece of shit out the door,

The card in it has europe cn NT 2014.30
A thread that i can no longer find suggested i got a bigger card , which i did which is about 16gb
It has the 2015 update on it ,(can't remember how i did that ):nenau plus i put some mp3 music on it to try that , Well the nav dosnt see it or the music , unless i plug it in to the macbook then it shows as two different cards
Ive binned garmin express, basecamp and every other thing garmin from the computer and re-loaded
Ive factory re-set the nav and binned all personal info also then re set that as well
the basecamp is a fekn nightmare :headbat it keeps crashing and sending a report to garmin.

Anybody got the patience to take me through this thing step by step

Advice , abuse ,gladly accepted.
:comfort

What is it you want to do ?

Firstly i suggest that you do a reinstall of basecamp onto your mac book and reinstall garmin express make sure you have the Garmin communicator plug in for mac)

Then plug your device into the mac book and garmin express should automatically open.
find where it says re install maps and advanced options and then install the maps to your computer only in the first instance.
then repeat installing to just your device

when you have done all of this close basecamp down and then re open it and check which maps you have from the drop down at top of screen and then check the maps on your device are the same

That should keep you going for a while

Thanks Tony will have a look at that .

Redrick : Im basically trying to plan a route down from the Santander ferry down to Andalucia in May ,

Ive done the route numerous times ,numerous bikes , but the new roads around Santander to Burgos route has now by-passed the twisties over the mountains between Santander and burgos following the gps, I would like to find and plan that old route back over there . (Garmin communicator plug in ?????)
I will bin everything again as you advice
and keep you updated , cheers lads ;)

Garmin comunicator is some software so mac can talk with your device
if the two are already talking dont worry

Planning the route on basecamp is actually very easy as long as you have the correct maps and then sharing it or sending it to the ubit is also piece of piss

Once you have basecamp up and running if you click in the edit drop down and then options at the bottom of that list sort out you units of measuremnets to what suits you and replicate on the device then choose your activity profile Motorcycle is a good option here i assume and replicate on device then the other tab for routing options and again make sure that these are the same on the device i go for shortest route. A point to remember is that this only takes effect if you just choose and go from the unit itself if you have a planned route it matters little untill you need to ammend on the hoof or divert

Finally under device transfer i allways tick both boxes and you can if you wish do the match route box but i dont bother as if everything is the same on basecamp and device there should not be a problem

When you have done that come back if you have issues with the actual planning of the route on basecamp

Tyre to Travel................. Easiest planning I've ever used.

Garmin software.............. Absolute rubbish. Delete it. You won't regret it once you have used the 'Tyre' software.

Can you plan routes using Google maps ?............ If so, you can use Tyre.

update:
I deleted the maps on both the internal memory and the sd card ,I read somewhere on the garmin site to also re-name the cards and re-boot
Even although there is nothing on the internal card its still saying there is something on it and i can't re-format like you can on a windows system.
Any ideas?
Now to garmin express, no matter how many times i bin it and reload it to the mac, I can't get past the page that there is not enough space on your hard drive
pick a region it won't go any further and just keeps buffering .
Anybody any ideas

Hi Stevie,
I know Basecamp gets a lot of stick on here but I find it very good and easy to plan routes, even for my cycle garmin!

If your still having trouble planning a route let me know and i'll talk you through it.

Cleaning SD cards, or any external memory device on a Mac. Once you have dragged and dropped the items to the trash bin YOU MUST EMPTY THE TRASH BIN.
Sounds stupid but the Mac only 'marks for deletion'. Full deletion is only achieved once the bin is emptied.
