Does anyone know if the tyre pressure sensors can be retrofitted. They were missed off of my bike. I have been told that they will need to check the on board system to see if they can be retrofitted. I would like to know before I take it in so I cannot get fobbed off by the dealer.

I think someone on the AdvRider forum mentioned doing this. They needed to fit the sensors on the wheels, and the box that monitors them under the seat.:thumb

If they were 'missed off' your bike (which implies they were clearly itemised on your order and, assumedly, paid for) then it is an error on behalf of the supplier (BMW) or the retailer, your dealer.

Whether they can or cannot be refitted is not your problem today, it's theirs.

Are they vital, to your enjoyment of the bike?

Or can you 'manage' without them?

If so and it's a dealer oversight, maybe something useful may be obtained in recompense from them

I think they are useful and reassuring (and a safety feature).

If it's the dealer's fault I would expect them to sort it.

must admit when i was flying down the M1 it was very useful, allowed me a few vital seconds to pull out of the fast lane safely when i had a rear puncture, great bit of kit in my opinion :D

Ah, but you've never had it. ;)

Ah, but I have had them:D..............................drove me fecking nuts:blast

They would read different values(cold), every day...................so you end up checking with a proper gauge time and again

I prefer to use the biker's age old friend of .....................common sense/user knowledge and my own feel & eyesight as to whether the tyre is ok to ride on

You can detect something pretty quick with a tubleless tyre

Just another thing to ....either go wrong or put the worry beads in your head.....................and spoil the ride:blast

Progress, eh............................shove it up yer arse:rolleyes:

I chose to pass on the option that included these, (also the traction control)....

Mostly because I read that they are easy to break, and the batteries fail... and then expensive to replace.

I drove away from my house with a half-flat tyre last month and it was very obvious to me that something was wrong..

But if you already paid for them then the dealer needs to make good.

Al...

They can indeed be added. One needs a sensor for each wheel, decals marking the location on the wheels, and the control unit. http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=55471&rnd=04302013 Click 77 Accessories, then scroll down to 77_0600 - RETROFIT TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR. In addition to installing the parts, the bike must be hooked up to the computer and told to accept input from it.

My thoughts about this feature were like those that many expressed until a friend of mine related how on a long ride, he picked up a nail, was warned by the system of low pressure before he had noticed it himself. He then pulled over and plugged the hole and pumped up the tire with the little pump he carries and then cautiously proceeded toward home while watching the pressure slowly drop (as the plug(s) had not sealed perfectly, which can happen). When it would get down to a certain point, he would pull over and pump it up again. Doing this, he eventually made it home.

I read that story and thought it would be a nice thing to have, so I had my local dealer add it. I do enjoy being able to look down and scroll through the info to check my pressures.

Thanks Emoto. That was exactly the information I needed. I have had a TPC set up in a car and it definitely saved me from being stranded on the motorway when it picked up a puncture. I also suffered the effects of a slow puncture on a blade and it caught me out a treat. Crept up on me and it was like I had suddenly forgot how to steer. Very useful link to the parts book.

Oh good. Yeah, I am hoping to learn of a problem before I toss the bike into a fast corner with little to spare.

To state the obvious, that being a US model fiche, there are going to be some differences in parts like lighting and perhaps handlbar switch clusters, maybe other things too. I suspect the tire pressure stuff is all the same.

Yes, see the pic above

That doesn't explain how to do it though.:blast That's a US bike, with PSI set at the factory.:rob I'm told that this still can't be changed in the UK.
