Hi Readers,

Before I plunge into the IT abyss trying this out has anybody gone down this route before.

My Nav 5 has either been connected to a PC or a mac. Is it compatible with a tablet (Dell) ? It is a tablet with usb facilities and can be a touch screen or mouse controlled.

I don't know if there will be a clash on the OS seeing its a tablet version of windows 8.1. The reason I ask is that a tour is approaching and the tablet is portable and after losing my all my map data yesterday did not want to suffer the same fate again on the road.

So have any of you out there tried a Nav 5 ( or even another model Garmin ) with a tablet.

Thanks.

Steve

It would be great if it did, not tried it as I have no tablet with USB, only iPad.

If you're worried about losing maps etc, why not get a microSD and take a spare copy of everything with you?
You could even take a USB stick to plug into any pc to tx to the Nav...

Logically, there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

Load BaseCamp onto the tablet, attach the GPS device and find out.

PS How did you lose your map data?????

The only thing to watch out for is that Dell in the past had models with an ARM processor and which ran Windows RT - these won't run proper Windows apps. Yours isn't one of these, but I thought I'd mention it!

thanks for the suggestions

Hi Readers,

Cheers for those suggestions,

First off, how did I lose my map data. Don't know and that really is a sore point. Because if I did know I wouldn't be doing a belt and braces job. See my thread yesterday which is closed.

The suggestion of memory card and the possible conflict with the windows OS are taken on-board.

Its a good job we have this forum, the collective problem solving power from the members is so helpful.

I use my Zumo 660 with an Asus windows tablet and basecamp with no problems.

I use a Nav 5 with my laptop and a Linx 10 both running Windowz 8.1.
I DO store the Garmin maps on an extra micro sd card on the linx as it's only got a 32gb main disc.

All works OK ..... now!

That's exactly what I do on my linx 10 and have had no problems at all.

Hi Readers,

Thanks for your help, I know which way to go now.

This thread is now closed.
