Hi there all
I've a problem on my 1200 gs in that i can't get the brake light to go out. I've checked the rear brake switch and its fine. I've dismantled the front brake and checked the micro switch, problem is it seems to be working in reverse. i.e. when the switch is pulled out the light goes out and visa versa. Also with the both switches completely disconncted the brake light is still on. I'm baffled. I did have a wee spill which caused this problem and front brake took a battering, but it all seems fine now.
Any ideas? Please!

i.e. when the switch is pulled out the light goes out and visa versa.

isn't that the way it is supposed to work... so as you squeeze the brake lever, the micro switch gets pushed in and pops the light on? :nenau

When I dropped mine, it knocked the microswitch... so, you can re set the position of the micro switch by loosening a little screw underneath, put it in the correct position and it should be ok....

: )

I guess, if you disconnect it all, it is just open circuit and defaults to lights on... so wrong tree chased there :thumb2

Brake light

On a recent 3000mile trip to Italy and back, fourth day out, switched on and started engine. My 3yr old GS 1200, indicated brake failure, and I had only residual braking. Switched off, re-start ,ok. Next day same situation three times ! My following companion noted that the brake light was on. Twice the next day the same and was getting ready to phone recovery. (In Austrian alps)Carried out a visual check on pads, footbrake switch.,brake lever etc.
Nothing obvious but mysteriously, the problem did not re-occur.Garage check on return, failed to reveal anything untoward. I am aware that the handguard can foul the lever but that would presumably only operate the brake light ?
No re-occurence since.

Water in electrics ??? Maybe try some WD40 on the switches?

Can't get the **** brake light off

Had the same problem a while back it took for ever to
find the fault sat with a test meter and a lot of tea and biscuits
(Thanks lippy for that) and finally traced the fault to a break in the wiring harness
some where on the site I posted the fault but cant remember what I called it
if you need any further help drop me a line.

I fixed the problem by bridging out the fault.

You will need a 2mm allen key to ajust the front switch. Just loosen the grub screw and pivot the switch until you can hear it click.
The switch is a NC (normally closed) that being the switch is made and when you activate it you unmake it.
