Carb question

We are all really guessing, in actuality put it on a dyno with a sniffer & that should tell you where the problem lies. If not, bring it down to me as I have an exhaust gas analyser & can ride pillion, do the readings whilst you put her under load...:nenau

Cheers Proff, Alimey,

But it's no wonder the damn thing wouldn't run properly...

After trying every damn thing I could think of, I decided to call in the local Consultant Surgeon - Andrew Sexton from Hook Norton.

All Andrew had to do was ride it up the drive to diagnose that there was something properly wrong with the valves. So he took the heads off and found that the previous owner had fitted 30 degree valves to a 40 degree valve head. The valves were barely sealing on a knife edge. Nothing I was going to do would make a blind bit of difference.

Problem is, Andrew always has some really good ideas about what one should do with one's bike - and he's bloody good at doing it too. So, next week I'll be picking up my newly twin-plugged, ported, re-shocked, progressive-sprung, fully serviced RS. I'll be quite seriously poorer, but from experience, Andrew's pretty damn good.

Can't wait... :D

Well, the latest update is:

I am now very, very poor and Andrew Sexton is considerably richer. :(

BUT

I now have an R100RS that runs like it should. Scrub that - it runs better than it was ever intended to :beerjug::beerjug:

It's been/had:

twin-plugged and twin-coiled
ported
new Ikon shocks
new progressive fork springs and heavier oil
a service (OK, could have done that meself, but seemed rude not to)
new exhaust valves
new valve guides

And a whole raft of other stuff. I've just got back from ragging it round the Cotswolds, grinning like an eejit.

Nice one Andrew - you aren't cheap but by God, you're good :thumb2

Long way round to the office tomorrow and perhaps even a short day... :augie
