Just got an email from our TRF RoW Officer:

Ace Cafe London has received the below information from the organisers of
the annual Cassington Bike Night in respect of this year's event that was to
be held (to include with a run from the cafe) on the evening of Monday 27th
June. A very sad read.

"It is with deep regret that due to circumstances beyond the control of
British Motorcycle Riders Club (Oxford) we are cancelling this years bike
night. This is primarily driven by the fact that the size of event has now
outstripped the clubs resources to manage it, particularly in the light of
the road safety concerns raised by WODC which cannot be ignored.

We realise that this is fairly late but we have been working hard to try and
address the issues raised but ultimately it has not proved possible to find
solutions.

We would like to thank you for your support in previous years as without it
the event would not have grown to be the success it has.

Once again and on behalf of the club please accept our apologies."

Chris Hope

Secretary BMRCO

:tears.Great pity,it is usualy a great night and raises a good deal of cash for the school etc. Hope it returns.

You mean "Yet again, we, the pointy-headed wankers, have decided that people were having too much unsupervised fun to be ignored. So we've made it - indirectly, in a weasely way, far too hard for anyone to organise without jumping through enough pointless, flaming hoops of compliance to make it impossible."

Road safety concerns? WHAT fecking road safety concerns? I've been at Cassington the past ten years and never seen anything but good-natured, well-behaved fun. Ooh, what if someone ran with scissors??

Of course, that's absolute anathema to the control-freak, joyless fun-haters and Control and Compliance Central. Probably couldn't work out a way to tax it - so they banned it. But without having the balls to do it directly.

Wankers. Utter, total and complete wankers.

That man speaks the truth :beerjug:
It should go ahead anyway, regardless.

Well that'll do the biking cause loads of good, then. "Me and my 5000 mates want a drink in your pub, mate". Yeah, right.

God, you lot go off on one don't you? :blast

Yeah. We should all stay at home with our blunt crayons watching reality TV.

Ever been to Cassington?

Yeah. We should all stay at home with our blunt crayons watching reality TV.

I don't think so, have you never heard of "Blunt Forced Trauma", your a bloody danger to society!

This is all a load of bollocks, the event has been huge for years, I have gone almost every year since 1985 and I remember the first time the place was rammed and it has been rammed ever since - no problems, no trouble, no accidents and pretty much everybody happy including the non biking villagers.

I was hoping if nothing else the change of Government might stop some of the nanny state bullshit.

You and me both.

Sadly, the little nylon-trousered pointyheads are still alive, well and salaried in County Halls across the UK.

So that's £3k the charities and school in Cassington won't see this year. Hope the council's pleased with its smug little self

I don't understand why they just don't charge an entry fee... I realise it might not be the whole point, but £1500 between 6000 people ain't much 250 pence each??? It would be one in the eye if there's another reason for the hassle.

I'm not sure that the argument that there's never been a problem in the past is a good one, I've been to the event once or twice and it does defiantly take over the village - on the flipside I wonder how much of an additional PITA having the road closed would be for the residents? I know the used to be all sorts of stink in Lechlade when Fairford was on...

Well said - if more people had your "at the first sign of difficulties completely give up" attitude we'd all be living safely in caves where no trouble could be caused.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people who go every year, and don't hear that it's been cancelled.

I'm equally sure that there is nothing that can be done if a load of us go for a rideout that just happen to go to Cassington!:beerjug:

Let's all go round to MMC's... :hide
