I looked into exterior cell antennas and was put off by the advice that you need a really short run of cable between the antenna and the base or it eats up any gains made by the antenna.

I don't know the answer to that @cookie I am aware that losses can occur over a long run but not the amount in this case. The cable from the booster to the indoor antenna is listed at 5m and to the outdoor antenna as either 15m or 20m and I have to admit that I didn't check. I'm trusting that the manufacturer has taken loss into account when determining the length of cable supplied.
