ceramic clutch

I amcurrently preparing my bike for a 3 weeks Morocco trip march next year. My dealer advised me not to wait too long because TT has very long delevery delays (my Ohlins came after 3 months only).

Now I am considering a clutch replacement since I will do a lot of off roading. My bike will probably have 70000 kms by the time I leave.

1. is a preventive replacement worth the investment. I presume my clutch will wear out one day or another. What's the normal lifetime of the original one?
2. are the ceramic clutches really that good?
3. my dealer states replacement takes about 5.5 hours. Is that correct? Is it a difficult job?

clutch nightmare !

I'm on my 3rd clutch on 30k miles - I have found that off roading rips up clutches, especially on bmw's and unlinekk a normal bike, you have to talke the whole engine apaprt - a pain the ass, especially if youre on the side of a road in africa

on my most recent replacement I did the clutch change myself and it took abotu a day of painful effort (1/2 a gs is heavy when youre trying to position the rear drive an gear box !) anyway ive stayed away from off roading recently and my clutch seems ok so far.

the next time I'll get a ceramic one - however apart from teh £300 or so they cost, once placed after 5k m of wearing in you have to remove some shims - or the other way around, thereafter its supposed to be good indefinately.

so my advice is get it done now - rag it up off road and burn that clutch, to thet 5k miles fit and your ready to go.

like i say Ive had nightmares over clutches (no1 = 8k miles , no2 10k miles and so far so good on my current one)

do a quick search on ceramic clutches.... there are a few drawbacks.... plenty posted on them before
