Hi folks, I have just bought a IXUS 430 and have been reading the handbook and have a question for you experts out there.
You can stick the memory card into a CF reader and connect that to the pc to load the pictures to the pc. Is this method better than just connecting the camera direct? Are there any advantages to this method?
Thanks in advance

If the camera writes .jpg files, and most do, you'll find a directory named 'DCIM' and a number of sub-directories on your CF card containing the .jpg picture files (Canon cameras).

I always use the CF card-reader to unload the camera - it's far quicker and easier than faffing around with connecting the camera.

Ditto Greg's reply.

I lost my Ixus connector cable. I trawled around a load of different websites and photo shops when I was in the USA before some bright spark in a shop pointed out that I needed to think laterally. He handed me a US$12 CF reader. I haven't looked back - it is an excellent solution.

Just remember to be careful when loading/unloading the card from the camera as this can damage the pins if done carelessly.

Use of a CF card reader rather than connecting your camera direct to your computer protects your camera from potential problems with power spikes, surges, power cuts etc

Cheap insurance for your camera........and faster !
